We usually pay cash. It would not bother me if someone put their share or full bill on their card. I just cant deal with people who think that bill is on us.

I didn't make myself clear, what I meant was what if the person paying with their Cc wanted you to give them the cash and the whole thing goes on their card to get the points? It seems most dont care and i dont care but one of our couple friends definitely cares. This couple feels that if we're all paying with cash the tip should also be paid in cash so that it would be up to the waiter if they want to claim it as income.

I really had trouble getting this question out. Lol!

Our time is more valuable than anything else. I would question anyone who is so petty about points on a credit card. We usually only dine with good friends and we are fighting for the bill.

I have always disliked people who itemized the bill. Even when I was a poor college, I hated when certain people would nitpick the bill. Because one person didn't have a bite of a certain appetizer, we'd have to recalculate and it was just very annoying. I'm not a big drinker so I was often the loser when splitting a bill with alcohol. I would never say that this friend ordered an extra cocktail or two.

Going to dinner with friends

We always pay with a mix. I always put it on my card. I have taken cash before from others and put the whole thing on my card. I've never thought of cash back/points, I just liked that I didn't have to go to the ATM then.

Who cares how people pay? If your friends want the points, they should use their card also then no one will get all the points.

I think everyone should pay cash. I don't care about people wanting points but it's just embarrassing to hand the waiter 5 cards. Plus then you really never know if they are leaving the correct tip on the bill. If you know you are going out, just drive though the ATM.

Going out to dinner tonight and I'm planning on paying with my card. I happen to have cash as well but I want my points, as does everyone else. (We all have the same credit card )

It's never crossed my mind to worry about who is getting points on their cc. Sometimes there's a mix of cash and cc with a group, sometimes one person will take the cash and put the whole thing on their cc - really, whatever. It is a complete non-issue as far as I'm concerned. Seems like a pretty petty thing to think about - especially among friends. I almost always prefer leaving a cash tip and might suggest it, but again, it's really not a big deal as far as I'm concerned.

1. If the person is so worried about someone else 'stealing' their CC points, then they should pay their portion with their credit card and not cash.

2. The person that is complaining is making this is a big deal because they want the waitstaff to be able to ILLEGALLY not claim their income? Sorry.

You can't be pissed you're not getting points and not allowing the waitstaff to steal at the same time. Mutually exclusive. Next time this person should get their own separate check.

We usually pay cash but it's sometimes a mix.

We would have no problem with someone taking the cash and using their card. There's been times someone would need cash because they didn't get to the ATM that week, so they just take the cash from other couples and put whole bill on their card. Points , cash back - I'm not counting. We're friends.

If I went to dinner with people who were watching every move we made at the table reguarding payment (this whole points thing)... that would be the last dinner we had.
I don't have time for that ish. I also cannot stand itemizing bills, separate checks, etc. I don't care if you had a steak and I had a salad - we split it. It all evens out eventually.

Re: Going to dinner with friends

Never saw a problem splitting a bill in credit cards until now Chat Icon With couples (that usually are not more than 4) or girlfriends, we usually always give out credit cards. I carry cash, but not a big amount to pay with cash, and I don't like to be cashless. Even with credit cards, we split the tip (double the tax and divide that in the number of credit cards). Only once we had a problem in Rosa Mexicano, because the didn't accept more than "I think" 3 credit cards. But other than that, we have never had an issue with it. WE always split it even. Some people drink less, but eat more. I never do appetizers, but I love my wine. With the group of couples we hang out, we always say that it will even out when our DC are in high school Chat Icon

How would you feel if you brought cash and the other couple wants to pay their card to get the points?

Wouldn't care

Split evenly, usually all cards, though I have one friend who insists on bringing cash and then complaining about how she has to ask for change.

If I chose to pay cash then I could care less if they wanted to use their card. It's not like they're saying I couldn't use my card if I wanted to.
