Going to dinner with friends
When you go out with your dh and other couple friends and split the check, do you all pay cash? Credit card? Or a mix?

Re: Going to dinner with friends
When I go out with a group, I always bring cash for the bill.
A lot of my friends use their credit cards and some places have limits as to how many cards they can use per bill. It's just easier overall - and there's a branch of my bank near my job and home.

Re: Going to dinner with friends
Cash usually. we try to bring cash if we can so its not going on multiple cards...sometimes waiters get pissy about multiple cards. Just easier to have cash if possible

Going to dinner with friends
How would you feel if you brought cash and the other couple wants to pay their card to get the points?

How would you feel if you brought cash and the other couple wants to pay their card to get the points? I would not care. Sometimes I use my credit card and others give me the cash, and other times I use cash and someone else puts it on their card. Or we split the bill, or both use credit cards. It is different every time.

Everyone would like to earn points on their card. That's why it's pretty understood in our group to bring cash.
Someone used thier card once. The person collecting from everyon gave all the cash to the waitress and told her how much to put on the one card to pay that persons share.

Re: Going to dinner with friends
We don't carry cash and mostly put down a card split evenly. These days we mostly eat out with one family at a time so one family often picks up the entire bill or we just split evenly. It isn't like when we were younger where we go out in a big group of friends where we are splitting the bill 10 ways.
A decade ago when I used to go out this way, I usually took cash.

I don't think it is a big deal for a person to take the cash and charge the entire bill. I have done this as have others. It saves me a trip to the ATM and earn some points.

It's a mix. I always bring cash though. I don't care if someone wants to put it on their card for points.

I have never heard of anyone worrying about this and it wouldn't even enter my mind. It seems pretty petty to go out of your way to make sure someone you call a friend isn't earning credit card points.

Re: Going to dinner with friends
We haven't gone out in big groups Ina long time. usually one couple picks up entire tab. It's split when one person snatches the bill and says "split?", which is rare. There have been times when there's a "fight" over who picks up tab. Dh avoids it by excusing himself to go to the bathroom and pay for it before the bill even comes. We also only take time out to go to dinner with people we truly love. So we get joy out of treating people to dinner and they do the same. We have very few close friends.
Usually the one who invites people to dinner is the one who pays

We don't really go out in big groups anymore but if we are out with anyone and have to split the bill we just throw in our card. I never have cash on me and nowadays it's so common to split bills among different cards or a combo of cash and credit that no waitress bats an eye.
As for earning point on a card, who gives a cr@p. That's honestly never crossed my mind.

To answe the Q when we go with couple friends it's almost always split. Sometimes either we treat or our friends treat.

Going to dinner with friends
I always try and pay cash for dinner out. How other people pay doesn't really matter to me. Once on vacation with friends I didn't have time to go to the bank so that night for dinner I took everyone's cash at dinner and paid with my cc. Paid with cash the rest of vacation.

Re: Going to dinner with friends
People really bothered about someone else getting rewards points on their cards? Sorry, that's bizarre.
To answer the original question, we always bring cash.

If I brought cash, I would have been planning to use cash so why on earth would I care if someone else was using their credit card?
