Re: outside party- wording question

We do outdoor parties every summer since both of my kids have summer birthdays. We set up all the food, etc outside so most people hang out outside. A few people end up going inside and watching TV on the couch (like if there's a baseball game on) but majority stay outside. I don't think there's any way to word it but just keep all the food and drink outside.

Re: outside party- wording question

Isn't a block party just for your neighborhood? For us, the entire street is involved and surrounding streets come by. My doors are locked and nobody went into my house during this time except my actual family. I'm assuming people just went home to use the restroom, since everyone there lived close by. I wouldn't have minded people asking me, but nobody did, so it might just be best to lock your doors.

Honestly I would lock your door. Your neighbors might be nice, but you never know who is a thief, etc., and I wouldn't want people just coming in and out of my house all day.

don't invite people over. come on, there is no way you can invite people to your house make them stay outside.Chat Icon

That. Don't invite anyone.

When someone invites me for either a BBQ or a block party I assume it's an OUTDOOR party and I would NOT even think to go hang out inside the house.

OP, put a sign on your door that says something cute like "Potty Inside, Party Outside". Chat Icon

Re: outside party- wording question

I need clarity.. is this an outside block party where all the neighbors are involved?

I just feel like if I invite my family/friends to any even BBQ or outside even, some may hang out in my house off and on. I couldnt imagine telling someone in my family they couldn't go into my houseChat Icon Chat Icon

I think you'd need to make sure everything was outside and in the front of your house (not yard): food, drinks, etc. Also, you'll need to make sure there is ample seating outside as well. If any part of the "party" is inside, people will end up hanging out inside.

I don't know if I'd put up a sign but I'd do what others have suggested by turning off the air and leaving off the lights. I also don't like when other people are in my house without me there.

Re: outside party- wording question

If it's a block party I can see why that would be annoying. I get going in the house to use the bathroom, we've even had people go into the house to nurse or cool down their baby. But to just hang out inside is weird, especially if the hosts are outside. I'd keep the lights out, though if it's a day party, that's kind of a moot point, and put up the signs. I like "Potty Inside, Party Outside". It's cutesy and not too harsh like get the hell out of my house. Chat Icon I wouldn't turn the AC off though, unless it's a cooler day. I'd hate to go inside at the end of the party and sweat like a maniac.

She said it was a block party. I take that to mean neighbors from your block are hanging out in your house, while you are outside partying with the other neighbors. Weird and I would never go for that.

I love the "Potty Inside, Party Outside" sign idea.

But to be honest if people didn't participate in the block party aspect of it and just hung out inside my house I probably wouldn't invite them the following year. If they asked why I would simply say that you didn't think they really enjoyed the party last year since they spent most of the day inside.

ITA. I honestly can't even imagine a sign on the door. I would just skip inviting people and hang out with the neighbors.
