i managed to get out of college with minimal loans ~5k for a private school. my parents were able to pick up the rest, considering i got a decent scholarship. I was also an RA for 3 years so I got free room/board.

My DH is 33. He went to law school 2009-2012. He (well we) have about 120K (which ballooned up to 150k with interest) now. Those of you with low interest rates - please be grateful. His federal loans are 6.8 and 7.9. It's very hard to get out from under 120k when ~700 of your payment goes towards interest.

I had private loans with higher interest rates than this. I paid 70k in 2 years. They ranged up to 13%. Every penny I earned went to those loans. I lived with my dh, we lived off his salary which was not a lot at that point either. Honestly, you just have to be OK with spending almost nothing and put every penny to the debt and just get rid of it.

I deferred my undergraduate loans for many years while I did a masters then a PhD-all in I had about 30k from my undergrad, masters and Phd- I am currently a SAHM but once I return to work my plan is to pay them off. Hopefully by the time my dd starts kindergarten all of my loans will be paid off. I was lucky to have scholarships for the majority of my education.

I was lucky that my parents and scholarships paid for my undergrad. I had a loan for my masters but I've paid that off. My DH went to a much more expensive business school so we are paying that off but should be done next year (when he turns 40)

DH and I are CUNY grads (it's where we met, too Chat Icon) and because it was so affordable, we accumulated no loan debt.

And we're childfree so we won't be paying for anyone's college ever! Woohooooo lol

CUNY grad here and childfree here. I did take loans for my degree but they've been paid off long ago. I'm 41.

Had $127,000 in loans and used to pay about $1000 a month to get the principal down. My rate was 4.5% at the time. I also worked every weekend and put any extra money towards my school loan. I lived home even after i got married. Drove a crappy car for a long time. After a promotion at work, i was able to get rid of my loan after 7 years. Its been the best feeling ever!! I literally used to get sick over having so much college debt.

We're in our 40's and we are repaying my husband's student loans from undergrad and graduate from NYU. We've got like 8 more years to go I think....it was a 20 year loan and the rates are stupid low like 1.75%. We'll pay those suckers off if we get a surplus of cash one day, but for now, we write off the interest every year.

I went to SUNY Stony Brook (also 5 year plan due to major requirement changes) and I was fortunate that my parents paid my tuition in full.
