Vent. ..I hate...
When I tell an adult that I can't make an event or do something and they ask "why."
Happened twice this week!
Like seriously people pick one:
I have two kids under two and no sitter
Money is tight at the moment
General exhaustion
Just don't want to
It's none of anyone's business.
I need an excuse rolodex for some people.

I'm from Colombia and that's so common in my culture, that I'm afraid I might do that sometimes  We tend to be problem solvers, so it doesn't matter what your excuse is, we will offer you a solution. As a PP said, just have an excuse in mind and keep it short and simple... another event or appointment, or your are not feeling well.

Just because someone asks you a question, doesn't mean you have to answer. You don't owe anyone an excuse, especially someone rude enough to ask you why.

See I feel its rude to not give a reason. To me, no given reason is the same as saying "I just don't want to". I always offer a reason (even if it's not 100% true) just to not offend the other person . . . Unless I am trying to send them a message.
I also don't think it's horribly rude to ask someone why they can't make it. I personally wouldn't unless it was someone very close to me but I still don't see it as a huge deal. If you care about insulting them, I think an explanation should be offered.

Sometimes, just politely saying "what?" and making them repeat their rude question makes them hear how rude it is, and they kind of start explaining themselves awkwardly and back off.
Try it. Just smile, widen your eyes, and chirp "what?"

I've reached a point in life where I just don't GAF anymore.
"Sorry, I can't make it"
If someone is rude enough to ask "Why" after I have purposefully NOT offered up a reason, my response goes along the lines of "Just not feeling it".
I truly feel everyone feels so entitled to every detail of peoples lives these days because of social media.
