I heard this on CNN this morning. A little alarming IMO
“A Russian spy ship patrolling 30 miles from the Groton SUBASE underscores that the threats posed by a resurgent Russia are real,” Courtney said in a release. “This unacceptable, aggressive action, combined with the buzzing of US Navy ships in the Red Sea yesterday are clearly testing the resolve of a new administration. While I have total confidence in our Navy’s vigilant, responsible readiness, the White House needs to move past their seeming infatuation with Putin and treat him like the serious threat to global peace and security that he has been for the last five years.”

I heard it on the news this morning.
That there is a spy ship near Groton (which means it is also close to LI) is rather alarming.

I was alarmed when I heard about it, but then I started reading that this isn't the first time. April 2015 they believe the same ship was also close to the coast of the us. Right now they are staying 70 miles off the coast and us territory is 12 nautical miles or about 14 regular miles from the coast. So it's not like they are super close. I read they are not too concerned, but they are keeping an eye on it.

Who knows. They are out there a lot. Probably seeing how close they can get to the Nuclear sub base in Groton, Ct. or monitoring our AF activity from Westhampton. I remember them being out there all the time when I was younger. I'm sure we're right along their cost, too.

Ok so is it official... are we supposed to be afraid of Russia again?
Are we back to the Red Scare? Someone please remind me when we stopped being allies with Russia completely. I totally missed the memo of Russia is an hated enemy. Are we planning to send troops over to secure our allies in their vicinity soon because we do that when we have enemies.
Are we going to push them Russian cosmonauts out an airlock in the space station?
I remember the days we hated them Russians but could have sworn we were past that. Sorry someone fill me in. Thought hate lead to hate.

This is one of those situations I will say the media is playing into. Yes, timing makes you go hhhmmmmm, but they are out there all the time and have been as long as I remember. Just not reported on because it really is routine.

Yes. This is so frustrating. I admit, I was a little alarmed when I first heard it, but then I actually did about 5 seconds of research to find out that this is not anything new. It was just great timing for the media to create more outrage and boost their ratings.

Exactly...has been happeneing for many years. They are in International waters, so I really think media is hying it up. We have spy cameras set up facing the Chines embassy in NYC.

I agree!! I can't stand the media anymore. Yes we all have different views and opinions and morals. But the media LOVES playing into it! Playing with everyone's emotions. They are helping divide us. They create hysteria, violence, outrage, and fear and honestly they have created deaths. (police officers lives lost) I was also scared when I read about the warship. But after researching how normal it is and that we knew about this over 30 days ago. I really can't anymore. I think its crazy that we cant read the news anymore. We have to research it, Fact check it, go to Snopes just to try and find the truth. Its crazy!!
