What would you get DH for his 40th?

Tickets to a Broadway show, nice dinner in the city, maybe an overnight in a hotel - make a weekend of it.

My plan is to take DH to a Space camp in alabama that does "top gun" jet simulators. It's his favorite movie of all time lol.

I got him nothing special at all LOL
He turned 40 about 3yrs ago..
I turned 40 2 years ago.
It's just another year to us. I guess we missed the boat.

Lol....this is kinda how I feel but now I'm feeling guilty. His family is asking if I'm doing anything for him and I am
But not till later in the month and it has nothing to do with family.
We live upstate....so at the end of the month we are renting a limo bus for about 20 friends and couples and heading out to a brewery tour in the finger lakes (we live upstate). But his birthday is this Sunday and now I'm feeling guilty for not planning anything for this weekend. Although the limo and tours are going to cost about $1500??

We redid his home office with a beautiful antique mid century modern desk, office storage, a couch, and shelves to make it his space. Edit and a new office chair that he picked out.

I did that for my DH one Xmas. He LOVED it, thought it was the coolest thing!! Great guy gift!!

I think of it as a reason to get out, dress up, have fun, etc. Last year was the year of the 40th birthdays. We had a party just about every weekend and it was fun. A reason to enjoy getting older bc it's not always fun. Ha ha! 
Got to bring some spark or something.
My DH will be 40 this Fall and I think I'll throw him a party in August. Cater a backyard party and send the kids out to sleep at their grandparents.
For the PP -
tickets to a show
brew his own beer (we have one by us my DH and friends go to)
something personalized
tickets to a game
surprise him at a nice restaurant with a few of your closest friends there
couples massage
weekend away in AC, Boston, etc

My BIL has it and it works great! My DH is a big outdoor cooker, he was so excited

He's a whisky enthusiast so I took him to the whisky/bourbon trail in Kentucky and invited his closest friends from all over the country. They all came. Friday-Sunday night. It was surprisingly inexpensive. Dinner would've probably cost me the half of what I spent on flights and hotel.

My DH and I are more into experiences than tangible gifts, so we did trips when we turned 40. His was a 4 day trip to Aruba and mine was a couple of nights at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa.
I think it depends on what he likes and what your budget is. If he's more into nice gifts, maybe something like a watch?
If you'd rather do a shared experience, maybe a great dinner, a night away somewhere (like Mohegan Sun or Atlantic City or Manhattan), a sporting event?
If he's really social, then maybe a party?
