Ques regarding job application / HR help!
I would appreciate any insight or advice....
WHAT'S GOING ON: I have been a SAHM for the past 4 yrs and its time, not by my choice, to start working again. It's just become too financially difficult to live on 1 salary.
I recently applied for a job in an industry that I left over a decade ago. Upon initial viewing of the job posting I didn't realize how much experience was required for the position, its a "thinkning-outside-of-the -box" type of company. There were no specific qualifications listed on the job posting, just a very general blurb about the position and company. I applied and received a general response email stating that it would take 7 business days to hear back. That would take me to the 13th, 1 week away.
I got very excited about this position - obviously, and started doing research on the company. Im a researcher by heart and trade so that led me to googling the ppl who were listed on the company website already in the position that I have applied for.
Thats when I realized I am way out of my league.
SO HERE IS THE QUESTION: During my research "stalking", I see that there is a paid apprentice opportunity available working under the people in the position that I originally applied for.
So, do I
1) wait till the 13th to apply for the apprentice position to see if by some slim chance I am actually being considered for the original position?
***my only concern with this option is what if they fill that position this week too?***
2) should I email the person in HR today, asking that even though I applied for the original position, I would like to be considered for the apprentice position if he / she feels I'm not qualified for the original one???
***my concern with this option is that I'm being annoying or short changing myself***
Thoughts? Opinions? Other suggestions????
TIA

I'm not in HR, but I think you should apply to both. It's possible that two different people will look through the resumes for each job, so they may not even realize that you applied to both. I feel like it's just keeping your options open.
