For those that use a CPA to prepare taxes

Can I ask approx. how much you pay? And do you have anything other than a simple return (business, crazy stock transactions, legal issues, etc).

If it's truly simple and straightforward I'd do it myself on Turbo Tax.
It's pretty user friendly for simple taxes with nothing over the top crazy

I believe it was $320 last year and thinking of switching because ours is pretty basic and I can't even book an appointment with them this year, they said they are completely booked and to just drop the documents off for someone to work on.

own home, itemized, foreign stock dividend income, various incomes (disability, pension)

I just don't have the time to do my own. I do my FIL's and dad's because they are simple and don't need to pay anyone for that.

Its mine and his W2 and his retirement plans, my dividends, our dependent care spending, the house and occasionally the second jobs I take, sometimes I've had NY earnings slip back to me as well.

Plus all the usual stuff like donations and mortgage etc. Plus there was the 3 years I ended up owing due to a 401k issue.

Oh and lets not forget Obamacare trying to stick it to me when I was unemployed (or frankly just being unemployed). It was nice to have a CPA t have my back on that mess. Because nothing says "we care" like kicking me when I was down for not paying out money I didn't have for insurance I couldn't afford by charging me a fee for it after I finally get a job.

I always feel like I owe our CPA a batch of cookies and an apology. I know once he told my hubby that I need to stop working two jobs and another time "How does your wife make money from NY and get taxed from a job she left 5yrs ago?" hahaha He's a funny fellow our CPA, bless him.

$85. Nothing other than mortgage and work stub. Going to go to dhs account this yr (his is more work) and he charges under $200 but my accountant is someone I know and his is someone he knows.
