Do you have a best friend?

all this talk of best friends makes me sad that I don't have one. I do have women I consider friends but not someone like you are all describing. That's a great relationship to have.

I have 4 best friends and we've all best friends since elementary school. We are super close, like sisters. All of our kids are around the same ages so we get together a lot and all talk every day in group chat.

No. I have people who I talk to who I work with about leitmotif or basic home things but I don't have anyone I tell my true feelings to. It makes me kind of sad.

two... one is in New York and one is in San Francisco
I see neither often. I don't call or email or text or FB message them often or at all.

But if they asked I'd do anything for them and defend them utterly. And most importantly I think the same goes the other way around. They aren't friends they are family.

Yes I do. I moved to a new town at age 11 & the first friend I made then is to this day, over 18 years later, she's still my best friend. It's the same as mentioned in the OP- there's never been a question that we are a pair.

We have had periods where we've grown apart slightly but it always evens back out naturally. I tell her everything. She tells me everything. SOs on both sides always know we come with each other & we've been friends to each other's SOs. She is getting married soon & I am a bridesmaid because she has a sister. It was the same at my wedding. She's never missed a big moment with my kids. She has no kids yet, but I'll do the same for them. She lives in Brooklyn so we only see each other every 4-6 weeks, sometimes longer, but we text or speak on the phone usually at least once per week.

Her parents were my second family & vise versa. Actually our parents have become very good friends & sometimes see each other more than we do! The moms & dads & double dates. Her mother was actually one of the hosts of both my baby & bridal shower.

We both acknowledge that we're lucky. We're more like family than best friends.

No. Not since my early 20'sand I am way older now. I have my DH and my sister but no real friends to speak of. I envy those of you who do.

Besides close family members, no close friends :(
This has been upsetting me lately as well. Since my family is in Nassau County and I'm in Suffolk and I have no siblings.
Very hard to make new friends that are similar.

Thanks for sharing guys! So, ulterior motive to the question, I have one DD and not planning on more. My bff is an only child and said that yes, it definitely has pros, but it can be hard to be an only child. I'd never heard her say this so when she clarified she said "well, I have you but not everyone gets a you!" I was wondering how common these sister-not-by-blood relationships were (which is why I said no relatives ) I think positive female friendships are SO important (probably not the audience for this, but IMO it's equally important to have a great relationship with female friends as it is to have a great relationship with one's spouse)

I guess I have to hope my DD finds her friend soulmate, which, it sounds like many of you have

Yup! Since we were 8 and have been through everything together!

I've had the same best friend since 1997. So, 20 years!

I also consider my sister to be my friend as well. We are 15 months apart. But that probably doesn't count to this question lol

I do not. I have close friend but no one i would trust completely enough to consider a "best friend". I had one in high school to end of college and got screwed over by them so that is where the trust issues stem from. My mother is my best friend.

Yes. My bf and me have been friends since we were 7 so almost over 30 years. About 10 years ago I reconnected with 4 other girlfriends from that time as well and we are as close as ever. My best friend lives out of state but we still talk at least 2 to 3x a week. Actually moving closer to her next year. Super excited.

To add I have half siblings but was raised as an only. She is my sister in all ways but blood.

I had a best friend in Middle and High school but we sadly grew apart after we graduated... I have a few friends I meet up with every so often, but nothing like that "best friend" relationship.

I do. One and only. We were put together randomly as roommates in college and while I don't really believe in destiny, if ever anything was kismet it was us. We're so similar it's scary. We've had some bumps along the road- we got into a big fight and didn't speak for two months at one point. Then we decided to bury the hatchet one day and were right back to two peas in a pod. There are lulls where one or both of us are busy and don't see each other for awhile, but as soon as we do, it's like nothing has ever changed.

Yes, since we were in HS. And as a response to your update about having an only child, I have 3 sisters (half) and a brother. i am closer to my BFF than any of my siblings. A big part of it is because there is an age gap and we are at totally different places in our lives. But my BFF and I, we have always clicked and been in (mostly) the same places since HS. in some cases i'm sure people are super close to their siblings or cousin or maybe another relative, but is certainly not the case for everyone.

Yes! I have two. One that I've known since I was 10. Went to same Elementary, JHS and HS together and the other since we were freshman in HS. One was my MOH in my wedding and the other is Godmother to one of my twins.

I do. Our moms introduced us to each other 27 years ago. We talk and text all day. She was my maid of honor when I got married, Godmother
to my DD. She's really like a sister to me- I just love her!

My DH. We've been together since we're 16 and we've always been extremely close. He's really the only person I'd consider my best friend. Nobody knows me better!

Yes, I have a BFF from when I was 13. She was my MOH at my wedding and I was the MOH at her wedding. She lives out of state so we don't talk/see one another as much but we are always there for one another.

We both have other close local friends but we still call one another BFFs.

I have a few close friends, at different points in my life I am closer to some than others. I feel very fortunate bc I have quite a few fantastic lifelong friends who I trust and love.

Yes- We've been friends since the first day of 2nd grade when we met. We went to elementary, junior high and high school together. We're 35 now and still best friends. She's like a sister to me. Although we don't talk everyday or even weekly sometimes, she's always there for me and I'm always there for her. Our families are friends too because we were so close growing up. We do have a group of a few other friends that we are very close too, but out of the group, we're the closest. We are as different as can be, but still get each other.
