migraine sufferers please come in
All of a sudden I am getting them weekly. I hesitate to go to a doctor who will prescribe daily medication. I am looking for a doctor or professional with alternatives such as acupuncture, etc. Not sure where to turn. Please help as this is awful!!!

I see a neurologist and a chiropractor. I suffer but not regularly. But I have had times where I got them daily. I one was given compazine in the ER. It is used in other countries to treat headaches.

You should really go to the doctor since they came on so suddenly because it could be caused by a medical condition. I started getting migraines and it turned out I had high blood pressure. Once the high blood pressure was under control the migraines went away.

Yes! I drink between 50-75 oz a day.

This. I would not turn to alternative medicine until underlying medical conditions are ruled out.

I am going to go to the doctor definitely. I was also looking for alternatives in case they suggest a daily pill.

I find my headaches are more manageable when I workout. I think it must have to do with the endorphins/dopamine released.

My PCP recommended Migralex. It's over the counter. It has Magnesium like a PP suggested.

I have a rx for mine (not daily, just as needed) but lately I have found that peppermint oil on the back of my neck helps too. I still need my meds but it definitely helps speed up how long they take to kick in.

Wow that would be amazing if I could get mine down to that! How often were you getting them before starting this?

It varied. At points in my life once a month, or once every 2 to 3 months. I never got them as often as others seem to and they usually only lasted 6 to 8 hours.

Please go to the doctor before you try any supplements or home remedies. If you do not need a referral go directly to a headache specialist- they are neurologists who do a fellowship focusing on headaches. I suffer from chronic migraines and I wasted a lot of time and money seeing doctors that were unable to give me the specialized treatment I needed. Life style changes and stress reduction can definetly help reduce migraine frequency. I did biofeedback training and it helped a lot. Biofeedback, meditation , massage and exercise help reduce my migraine frequency and intensity. Eating frequent meals , drinking lots of water and adequate sleep help too. I have also learned my migraine triggers and try to avoid them- red wine is a big headache trigger for me. Keep a headache diary and see if there are patterns- there are good templates online.

Re: migraine sufferers please come in
I get migraines a couple of times a month, they are not debilitating but last a few days. I mostly get them around my period, the only thing that I find that will knock out the migaine is Imitrex. For about an hour after taking the medicine I don't feel very good but then the headache is gone at least for the day.
I believe my migraines are brought on by my hormone fluctuation.

This. I had dangerously high blood pressure for a long time. Ignored the symptoms. Once that got under control with meds, the headaches stopped.
