Because ties are pretty standard and boring. The speech hadn't happened yet so there really wasn't much else to discuss related to this event other than what people were wearing. And frankly women's fashion is a gigantic industry. People are always commenting on what the first lady is wearing. There is a whole section of the Smithsonian dedicated to gowns worn by the first lady. I guess maybe they should close that too because it's 2017 and people should be over women's clothing.

I do agree that Melania looks quite elegant and is carrying herself well.
She seems to be channeling Jackie Kennedy.
I'm not liking the red tie on POTUS.

I guess..
Homes have been lost, jobs shed, businesses shuttered. Our health care is too costly, our schools fail too many ....
I think most presidents start by saying they've inherited a duty and a job to make American better..
For some, saying the country was being given back to the people was uplifting (Some I said Some). Some feel like it was always ours to begin with. So it's perspective.
It was exactly as people thought it would be. If you thought it was be a success, then it was. More so because so many wanted it to be a failure. If you thought he'd be a failure and a loser then he was no disappointment.
I guess it was historical for that reason. I don't generally watch the swearing in. But it was unavoidable in the office.
I'm just glad nothing horrific happened like a terrorist attack. Because sadly, that's the world we currently live in. Silver lining.

Why all the hate for Melania? She looked gorgeous today. She's a beautiful woman.
What had Jackie O done any differently in her life up to the point in time of JFK's inauguration day that caused her to be an "icon?" She married into a politically connected, wealthy family. She knew her husband was cheating BEFORE he became president and looked the other way for the sake of politics.
I just don't get the vitriol for anything or anyone related to DT........

It was so dark. It was basically all his campaign slogans crammed into a sad speech. He didn't offer anything that was uplifting. A very sad day for America.

I think she knows that if she is a citizen of the US, that technically that fascist idiot is the president. I happen to agree with her. He is the president of the country in which I live (god help us), but he is not MY president. I have never felt this way with any other president in my entire life, whether I voted for him or not, Democrat or Republican.
Of course I hope no one is hurt or killed in the process, but yeah, I do hope he screws up so bad that this country swings so hard to the left in the next election cycle, your head will spin.

I listened on the radio because I couldn't look at him. Melania does look pretty but she is not a role model that I want my girls looking up to. I'm pretty sure she is the first 1st lady we have seen nude.

I agree! No one really looks back on JFK the person and thinks about how he was having a very public affair while in office. Kind of disgraceful. We've had a lot of disgraceful presidents actually.

The devil you know is better than the devil you don't. We are literally flying by the seat of our pants now, because the pilot behind the wheel and his crew don't even have a flight route mapped out yet. If they do, it is being safely guarded so the passengers have no clue where the destination will be. All we know is that we're headed for euphoric paradise and all we have to go by is the occasional insane and racist announcements he makes on the PA, and not for nothing, the nut sounds like he's had a few too.

I know I would not want to be thrust into the spotlight like that. I would hate it.
I mean if you marry a politician, you have to kind of expect it- but she did not marry a politician.
