a traveling with friends wwyd
I would do it and have done something very similar- like staying at a different hotel but at a next door property. At the time, my friend didnt want to splurge and i personally wanted to stay somewhere nicer. We would keep in touch throughout the day and meet up. She wasnt offended. I mean, everyone is an adult, it really should be a non issue. If you can afford it, i say go for it!

I would definitely go first class. I have flown coach to Hawaii and i always said if I went back I would most definitely want the extra room!

I don't think they would be offended. You are spending 2 weeks with them, it's ok to have skittle time/ space to yourselves and who knows maybe they will want to book first class as well.

Saw the update and that's great. Go and enjoy!!! Friends should never feel mad for someone. I'm sure they're happy for you and if they could they would. If my friends could move up and we couldn't more power to you.

They weren't mad or offended. I wouldn't have given it any thought if DH didn't say he felt a little guilty.
BUT - DH doesn't know what it's like to sit in coach for that long - I do! Unless it's a flight under 5 hours, we never sit in coach. Since we've been married, unless it's a shorter trip, we always upgrade (even if it's just to economy plus).

If it wasn't a special trip for your DH's birthday that you planned and they joined you on I might say suck it up and stick with them but I think those are mitigating circumstances that cause your side to win out.
This was my thought

Re: a traveling with friends wwyd - UPDATED
So, funny story, lol. My parents travel with their friends often, my dad also traveled often for work at the time.
So they got upgraded once, and their friends didn't It's been a running joke ever since, but no one was MAD about it.
