She has also not ruled out defunding public schools- see here.

The consensus is that she will be confirmed though. This one will impact all of us with children, and not in a good way. She left an absolute mess in MI, guess she wants to take it national. Charter schools are not the answer, especially if you have a child who learns differently.

What was one of the things people hated Hillary for?.... oh yeah, accusing her of "Pay for Play"... well, it's a good thing we avoid that! Chat Icon Chat Icon

Are ANY of his administration picks not pay for play? Linda McMahon, DeVos, Perry, Price, Pruitt, Mnuchin, Puzder...the list goes on and on.

This is one of the main things that grinds my gears about trump voters. The EXACT things that they vilified HRC for, are being done by trump. And you could have seen it coming from a mile away. Not to mention the SIX Goldman Sachs people on his team. But, HRC doing speeches for Goldman Sachs was the end of the world.

Can any trump supporter out there explain to me why it is ok for him to do these things, but it was abominable for her to? Not looking to flame anyone, just really don't understand the double standard.

First off let me start by saying I am not defending any of his choices and don't want a debate about each one.

I think you have the double standard backwards. Most people I know had no issue of Hillary meeting and working with these people but it was her double standard condemning Trump for doing it when she was doing the same thing all along so she was called out on it.

No I don't think its backwards at all. Hillary would never ever in a million years pick people like this, people who were so clearly ill equipped and uneducated about the roles they were taking on. And Trump is not "draining the swamp" like he promised his million of supporters. I am getting real tired of the "I'm a Trump supporter but I don't agree with everything he does" line because at the end of the day - with everything he is doing be so incredibly problematic and dangerous to our country - what is left for you to support?

This has nothing to do with the question that i answered which was about why Trump voters were against Hillary talking to Goldman etc...

The nominee for secretary of education...

Trump supporters were screaming about how corrupt Hillary was, she was beholden to Wall Street, etc.

Trump sold himself as the antithesis of this - beholden to no special interests. It wasn't about a double standard. He literally called her crooked Hillary and crowed about all her ties.

Clearly he was telling the truth about that.

Really? She was VILIFIED for giving those speeches. Trump and the other gop candidates asked repeatedly for the transcripts like there was some dark secret in there. Every republican I know used those speeches at one time or another during the campaign to point out how "crooked" she was.

I guess it just boils down to how could people vote for a millionaire who lives in a literal golden tower in order to fight back against the "elites"? Not saying that's what you did, but many people did. You (generally speaking) can't have an issue with HRCs wealth, connections, possibly sketchy business deals, and paid speeches if you don't have an issue with Trump's. I just don't get it.

And I am agreeing with you. Both did those things so to call one out is a mute point. There was no double standard it is just pointing out that they both did generally the same things, on this topic anyway. One side brought it up, the other side countered.

His campaign was built on calling her a corrupt liar, wall st, speeches, above the rules, etc. and his supporters were outraged with hrc. How dare can such a corrupt person run for the office of the president? Etc.

Where is his supporters' outrage now that he has proved to be all those same things, but with some nefarious ties to Russia mixed in? Not seeing the outrage. He gets a pass because...? Double standard. Sad!

The double standard lies in the fact that his supporters are not as outraged with him as they were with her. No denying the double standard is there. I wonder if it had come out that Hrc had ties to Russia if his supporters would be as dismissive as they are being with him and as totally cool with it (because you know, at least it's not her). Something tells me no.

So please answer the original question. How are you ok with him doing exactly what he vilified HRC for doing- all the corruption, pay to play, being in bed with Goldman Sachs etc? And add on that he flat out LIED to you during the campaign. LIED to you about "locking Hillary up," LIED to you about "draining the swamp", LIED to you about not cutting Medicare and Social Security. LIED!!! I don't get how you can continue to support this joke.

The IDEA comments have my blood boiling. I was screaming at the tv.

Also a clerical error listed her as VP of her mom's organization for years? Total BS! So if she ever actually turns in her paperwork or tax returns anything can be waved away as a clerical error?

Between her and the jerk chairing the hearing I was losing it. I can't believe he spent what felt like forever describing over and over that he wasn't going to let them ask more questions. I'm sure it would have actually made the hearing shorter rather than debating the request over and over.

Yup

He has not even taken office yet. Until he starts changing things or puts out definitive plans I can't be outraged or really pleased about anything. Anyone with a brain knew he was just talking out his ass about locking Hillary up. It was a sound bite and was irrelevant to any decision that I or my friends made. He so far he has no plans to cut Medicare and Social Security and again no plan is in place so I can't comment on that. As far as being in bed with Wall Street. He was a business man. That was his job. He was not a career politician and of course he has ties to Wall Street. While I know I am in the minority on this site but I do not believe he has ties with Russia and I was satisfied with his handoff of his businesses to his children. As I said before, I have no issue with Hillary and Wall Street and the outrage against her was because she was denying it and the DNC was all over Trump for his ties. Just own up to it and it wouldn't have been an issue.

Candidates in Presidential Races say a lot of things before they are elected and rarely do half of what they promised. It is always been like that because the President does not have ultimate power. It will happen with Trump, but also happened with Obama, Bush, Clinton and so on.
