is so freaking hard. How I miss the days when my worries were about sippy cups and tantrums over toys. My worries are so much bigger now. Treasure your little ones!
Just needed to get that out. That is all.

Re: Parenting teenagers
I can only imagine because my almost 5 year old already speaks to me like a teenager. I am terrified of what she is going to turn into if it's this bad now.

If it were only the fresh mouth and attitude, I could handle it. It's the worrying every time they walk out the door. Its about BIG things.
Topics that have already come up in my house this week (some of them with my kids, some not):
breast lump surgery Plan B Birth control A suicide note the rhythm method Pot Brownies Vaping Driving without a license
And its only Wednesday. I used to worry that too much SpongeBob was rotting their brains.

Re: Parenting teenagers
I block it out of my brain that my kids will be driving one day. I hate the thought of drinking, drugs and driving. STDs also.

I feel for you. I'm dreading the teenage years. At least your children are talking to you about those things. That's a great thing!

That's a great point. My kids are still young - almost 5, 6 and 9, but I tell them all the time that they can tell me anything at all and I may not love what they have done but I will always love them. I just hope they feel comfortable enough coming to me always.

Re: Parenting teenagers
I always hear little kids, little problems; big kids, big problems, esp from friends with older kids. I remember all we had to deal with and how much harder it must be these days, esp with social media.
I have a 3 1/2 yo, 17 mo, and baby #3 due in April. I seriously wonder how I make it through the days. Parenting is so much harder than I ever imagined. I'm sure I'll look back on these ages and miss it and think how foolish I was to have thought these were the difficult days!

Thanks ladies. I am lucky that my kids talk to me. For the most part, they tell me everything. Though around 16/17, my dd started clamming up a bit when she got a boyfriend and that really bothered me. But she eventually does come around.
I never, ever imagined how hard these years would be. People always talked about it, I guess I didn't believe them. Sigh.

Re: Parenting teenagers
We have been saying this for the post few years. Our talks Or worries consist of: -what do you want to do with your life? Are you going to enroll in college? -wondering when we are going to see him (lives with his mom) -finding out his girlfriend is 16and discussing statutory rape laws -reminding about protection and not making me a grandma
Then I have my little one asking why his brother isn't in college, when you're suppose to go and when is he going to see him.
We still have his stocking up in our house, it's the only one in the house and we send pics as a running joke.
