What ideas might increase users/postings on LIF?

As individual posters, we don't have a lot of influence on how LIF is run, but maybe TPTB might see this thread and take some of the ideas.

This has been a great place to hang out for over 10 years, but traffic is way down over the last year or two. I'd hate to see this site just fade away.

We used to (and possibly still do) have physical prizes at each million post milestone, but it's going to be quite a while until we do that again. It used to be roughly one per year, but it's going to be more like 3 or 4 years from the last milestone until the next one at the current rate. Maybe prizes for shorter-term goals like "thread with most replies for the month" or something the users could vote on or something, like "funniest thread from last month". The prize doesn't even have to be physical. Even having a pinned thread with the person's name and thread would be interesting.

I realize that all of the political posts are causing stress in the forums, but unfortunately, those are the only posts that seem to get any activity at all.

Are there types of topics/posts that people are more interested in besides politics? I've done a few forum games over the years that have had various levels of interest. I could try to bring back the more popular games. I tried doing threads with just positive stories, but that didn't get too far.

It's terrible to say but probably a little nonpolitical drama. That always brings old posters out of the woodwork. Some good old fashioned formula vs breastmilk, vaccine debate, or baby on board sign drama.

I think easier picture posting would be really helpful. I hope message boards don't become a thing of thing of the past.i like the relative anonimity they offer.

Posting pics from mobile devices would be WAY helpful.
I come here mostly for help with things.

Easier pic posting is a big one.

I truly believe there needs to be a separate politics board. I know, it's been said forever and never happened. But after seeing the constant back and forth and not so nice comments on these threads, I kinda don't want to have much convo with a decent amount of the regular posters.

And no. I won't even think of opening a thread that is an obvious shit stirrer. But some of them that start out fairly innocent turn into the usual. And It's making me not like people I thought I liked at one point

The ability to block specific users from seeing your posts. I really sensor what I post and wish I didn't have to.

More moderation, therefore less attacks would help encourage people to feel inclined to post.

I still prefer msgbrds over FB, but I find this particular board to be a bit antiquated (when it comes to inserting photos, links, etc..)

I think this site could use a specific forum for politics.

And as others have stated, I wish it was moderated.

I also find it a shame that this site doesn't get many male posters. There's a handful of men that post regularly, but I find myself preferring boards that have a better balance of men and women.


I can do without contests and prizes.

They need a new way to attract new posters. I assume most of the traffic came from LIW, which I understand is pretty dead, too. I only found out about this when I was going through IF and a nurse told me about the IF Forum. I had never been on LIW so had no idea this existed. They should advertise in some cheap resources (like that monthly parent guide) or even ask Drs offices to suggest the site to patients for IF, new parents, etc.
Maybe they could reduce their own advertising costs for sponsors that also advertise for them? Some sort of co-op? Like a photog that advertises here could mention the site to new clients and get a reduced rate?

What are the other boards that people are reading? this is the only chat board I frequent and probably only because I started with 2003 brides on LIW!
