Re: OMG gross!
I can't get over that you witnessed this at one of the most expensive coffee chains. Starbucks, home of the $7 frothy cup of frappuccino jizz. Now in pumpkin spice flavor.
Nice.

Penn Station location?
Yup! do you know this dude???
No but I've seen some really shady-ass shit at the milk/sugar counter at the Magnolia in there. Similar stuff. That's why I just knew it had to be Penn (or perhaps Port Authority) The only place I will get coffee/tea in Penn is at Pret a Manger because their milk/sugar counter is in the middle of the store and there is always at least one employee tending to the shelves.

It's disgusting. I'm so not surprised though. Does your office have a coffee station? Just get regular coffee and mix in your milk and sugar when you get to work. Glad you spoke up. I said something at Magnolia and they just asked the guy to leave. He didn't. So I went to the police.

Honestly, there are so many homeless people in or around Penn Station that I suggest avoiding all of those communal food stations.

Re: OMG gross!
I'm still thinking about this today. I made coffee at home and got a little wave of nausea remembering it.
My friend gets coffee from that Starbucks all the time (i only work in our city office a few times a month). But luckily she only drinks it black so no worries there.
There is a Starbucks upstairs in 1 Penn Plaza where I work. I think going foward I'll just go upstairs to that one. It's more crowded but there is less of an element there than at the one downstairs in Penn Station.
I am just questioning everything in life right now.

Re: OMG gross!
Eww so freaking weird and gross. I never use those things anywhere, just because I don't trust the milk or cream that sits out there. I always get already made lattes.
This reminds of those hammocks they put up by my job that everyone is raving about and sleeping on. I think it's gross.. it's NYC you don't know who sleeps on those at night or what people do on them. And I'm not even a germaphobe

Re: OMG gross!
I hate when restaurants and coffee shops leave the plastic utensils loose in bins out by the common area. It grosses me out just thinking of people burying their nasty hands in the bins to dig out a fork and touching all the surrounding forks. That's not even touching the possibility of some nutjob licking the fork and putting it back in the bin when no one's looking I'm the weirdo that always carries around my own plastic utensils in my bag.

I replied to this already but I just can't stop thinking about it. We need to start a petition to force these places to use individually wrapped utensils and creamers

I agree. Especially Starbucks, they're charging an absurd amount, the least they can do it put the milk and sugar or whatever in it for you. They do it at the drive through! I'm wondering if they'd give me a hard time if I asked them to put it in behind the counter for me at the ones without a drive through. I hate anything like this being left accessible to the general public.

I don't think they do it though because people prefer to make their coffee exactly the way they want it.]

Re: OMG gross!
You know for years, DH and I would go to this local Italian place. They would leave a little jar of grated Parmesan on the table with a little spoon when they brought over the bread and oil to dip it in.
We went once a few years ago, and they didn't leave it. DH asked for it and they said they aren't allowed to do that anymore because once they leave it on the table, they have to throw the whole thing out after each guest due to health department regulations.
So she would come and grate the cheese for you onto whatever you wanted.
So if they have to follow these kind of rules in restaurants, why are coffee joints allowed to leave everything out in the open like this?

Wouldn't the same regulations apply to the salt and pepper shakers, oil and vinegar bottles, ketchup bottles, dipping sauces, etc. most restaurants leave out at the tables? I've seen some restaurants still leave the grated cheese jar at the tables or common area. I don't think I can eat out anymore after this thread lol.
With what you witnessed and the things Pearljamchick has seen, I wonder what kind of health code violations are lurking at that starbucks Mr. Sassy Hotpants frequents. I'm SURE AS SHIT he's a regular in that establishment (and many others in the area).
