What do you bring to a neighbor's house?

My neighbor's are having a BIG bash tomorrow evening & they invited our entire block. We asked if we could bring some desserts & they told us to bring nothing...

We only moved into the neighborhood a year ago & this is the first time we are going...I can't go empty-handed, I need some ideas...

Background: they have wine cellar but I am not sure what they drink...TIA Chat Icon

If they have a wine cellar - they probably will try anything.
Got to your local liquor store and ask for a suggestion on a nice bottle of wine.

If they have a wine cellar, I wouldn't bring wine unless I knew specifically what they liked. My roommate from college has a wine cellar full of wine. I would probably bring flowers.

My mom has brought imprinted cocktail napkins (solid colors) with monograms, last names, boat name to people's GTGs but you'd probably need advance notice.

What about cookies or a platter of fruit? If you want to go all out you could pick up an edible arrangements thing - but those get $$$.

I would also recommend a bo-K of flowers and then maybe some fancy pasteries or chocolates from a really nice specialty shop, not your ordinary bakery.

I ususally still bring something even when they say we don't have too.Another reason i usually bring soemthing is becasue my DH is so picky, i always make soemthing he woudl like.
Last week i went to a scarpbooking party that started at 6pm and they said no don't bring annything she'll have snacks, well luckily i made a cake to bring with me beacsue all she had was m&m's and pretzels.

Re: What do you bring to a neighbor's house?

I would probably bring flowers arranged in an inexpensive glass vase (I have tons of these lying around my house).

Kohl's also has monogrammed soaps and bathroom towels on sale this week which I think are really nice!

I wouldn't bring wine to people who have a wine cellar. My cousin's are like this and are extremely particular about what they will or will not drink. Chat Icon

thats cute and thoughtful...have them delivered instead of showing up with them! love it!

I was thinking chocolates..if you live near a Krons or Godiva type of place. A nice box or basket of chocolates is always thoughtful and different.

Re: What do you bring to a neighbor's house?

i love flowers but if you are hosting a party, last thing you want to do is put them in a vase and cut them etc....its annoying to deal with when you have 100 people over..

i also think wine is a not a good idea...if they have a discriminating palette, they probably have tons of very expensive wine. unless you want to drop over $40, i dont think its worth it.

i suggest bringing something simple that doesnt require refrigeration...her fridge is probably stuffed..
like really good choc chip cookies, biscotti, rainbow cookies..those can sit out until ready to be served.

otherwise

bring some different style beer- like belgian beer hooegarden, or duvel or some petes summer ale...something unique

Re: What do you bring to a neighbor's house?

I would probably bring something packaged, so that if they have a ton of stuff and don't want to put it out, they can save it.

Some ideas I have are packaged cookies or chocolates, and sometimes I bring a variety package of Godiva coffee.
