Who should go first - earlier appointment time or first to sign in?

Whether it is a doctor's appointment, nail or parent teacher conference, who do you think should go first?

I was really annoyed at parent teacher conferences. I had a 9:30 time slot and got there at exactly 9:29. Another family who had 9:45 got there before me and the teacher took the other family first. I ended up not going until 10am despite getting there right on time.

Yeah. The teacher made the wrong choice there. I won't take an early appointment in for a conference.

Appointment time should go first
Unless the previous appt left fast and she was there right before you even walked in, taking her is a time saver

I think if you have an appointment & get there on time then you should be taken at that time. Were you both seated & waiting & she came out & called them in? I would've politely said "excuse me, I have the 9:30 slot".

If you had an appointment then you should have been taken first- it was the other families choice to show up early.

If you are on time you should be taken in the order of your appt. If you are late then clearly they can skip you and take the next person if they were wrong. I would've been really annoyed if I were you.

That's not cool and the teacher was in the wrong.

I had a similar situation at a dr appt. A husband and wife both walked in for an appt they BOTH had, which was technically supposed to be after mine but they were early. I arrived at 9:29 for a 9:30 appt, saw them walking toward the door and HELD THE DOOR FOR THEM, which allowed for them to sign in first and me needing to wait. I was so annoyed.

That has happened to me before at a Drs office and I said something - I was so annoyed!!! I don't know if I would raise a big stink though with my child's teacher since you will be working more closely together but, it was wrong.

As a teacher, I would of taken the 945 first in this case. If I didnt and the 930 didnt show (as many do not show) it would be 15 minutes of wasted time for me waiting.

i waited half hour yesterday with a 20 month old at a very very small restaurant because they didnt know how to figure in reservations correctly. i guess in the end the whole restaurant suffered :-P

Appointment time. Otherwise what is the point of having an appointment? Teacher was completely wrong.

I think both the teacher and the other parent were equally at fault here. First of all, who shows up 20 minutes early for a p/t conference??? Teachers run behind - not 20 min early. When the teacher took them in, they should have said - "no, we are the 9:45 appt, we are early" - assuming you were on time. Teacher may have not had the list in front of her and didn't realize.

I would have been livid honestly - I make my kids p/t conference times back to back - my husband goes to work late that day and we bang them out - most people I know with multiple kids do this. I would have totally missed my second appt! It's one thing if you have a late appt and expect the teacher to be running late - its another to have someone show up 20 minutes early for an appt and steal your time. I actually think the other parent was more wrong than the teacher the more that I think about it!

I am a teacher and I would never have allowed them in if it were going to affect your time slot.

You should have gone in first.

Sometimes, I'll have a small break and someone will pass and ask if they can jump in ahead of time. But I would not allow it to take someone else's spot.

Definitely appointment time in this case. You were completely on time, but bc these people showed up super early, you got bumped? Not fair.

I agree with the theory though that the teacher assumed the early people had the 9:30 appt. but she should have asked. Next time, I would say "oh actually, I had the 9:30 time slot" assuming it was just a misunderstanding. And I would have said something if I was the 9:45 people, to clarify and let you go first.
