I think the point is that they CAN'T support their kids. Ben is 19 years old and attends online community college classes. He wants to go into the ministry? Well guess what, he's not making squat doing that. And Jessa isn't allowed to work. None of the women are allowed to work, their ONLY purpose in life is to marry and have children.

Michelle has written parenting books! She's an awful parent- how do you not teach your daughters to be self sufficient or think for themselves? Or teach your sons to respect women and not assume that they exist only to serve men? They are essentially glamorizing mental abuse.

And don't even get me started on how they treat the gays or the fact that they're tax evaders.

I kinda love how LOST Michelle is without Jill and Jessa there...it's like she finally has to raise her own kids and doesn't know how to handle it.

And Jana is always with Anna to babysit and is behind the scenes so the public think she can handle it all herself.

Oh jeez, leave them alone.

A baby is a blessing and I'm happy for them. They're lucky to be able to have children so easily, as many people cannot.

What I never understood and maybe this is why I'm not a religious person but... Isn't it taught that Jesus loves everyone and wants everyone to love one another like him? Or, is his love conditional and open to interpretation based on convenience? I'm not being an asshole, this is what I've always questioned... not that anyone will ever have the answer, I just can't logically wrap my head around this "loophole" for lack of a better word.

ETA:

IMHO Hate is fear based... What are people afraid of? Who people want to spend the rest of their lives with have NO bearing on their day to day. Assholes like the Kardashians , the Madonnas, etc have more power to corrupt society than a same sex couple or 50 years ago a interracial couple. How silly is it now that two people of different races couldn't legally be married? It's bullshitt!

I mean can you honestly tell me you wouldn't be beyond hurt and pissed off if you were told you couldn't marry your SO that you loved with all of your heart and wanted to die with because let say for example he/she has hair on their big toe...? it's the same thing IMO

I don't understand it either and it's one of the reasons why I have a major issue with religion in general.

Opened this up thinking people would be congratulating them and come to find out people probably would hate me too Chat Icon . I was engaged at 19, married at 20, my DS was born 5 days before our first anniversary. I'm 28 now and have 3 kids and trying for a 4th. I'm a stay at home mom, and we are pretty traditional. I don't know much about there behind the scenes stuff but I think these kids are great, they seem happy and are such good siblings, they also are very hardworking and don't mind getting their hands dirty.

Anyways just wanted to say while you think what they are doing is hurtful, saying its sad she got pregnant so fast is very hurtful for someone like myself. I wouldn't change anything in my life and feel quite blessed.

I totally understand what you are saying.

However, you had other choices, meaning go to college, work, etc. These women do not have that. If they did decide to go to university, J'chelle would do everything to stop that. If they couldn't, that person would probably not be a part of the family anymore. I find that sad.

I also feel that religion does not give you carte blanche to do what ever you want with regards to humanity. The gay community deserves rights like any other human being. The Duggars have some background in politics and try to stop these rights. This to me is hate.

THIS. Couldn't have said it better myself. You can believe whatever you want, but actively trying to deny others civil rights is disgusting. You don't like the idea of gay marriage? Then don't get "gay married" Think abortion should be illegal? OK. Cool. Then don't have one, but don't use your beliefs/religion to influence public policy. Separation of church and state, and all that jazz.

Ok so let me ask you this, and I am honestly wondering.....if we want church and state and ll that jazz then what about the Priest that marries a couple? A Minister, a Reverend? Is that not church and state in a partnership at it's finest? Is the church not performing a legal action? Is that authority of the church not signing a legal document provided to the state? I understand separation of church and state but the very essence of marriage is religious in a lot of ways. Now I understand not everyone has a religious ceremony but many are married by an official of the church. What about a Rabbi? An Islamic leader? What then? Indiana just passed the addendum to the freedom of religion law and now I wonder how long until a homosexual couple goes to a catholic church and requests to be married. Unless that church has NEVER married anyone that wasn't a member they would be breaking the law by saying no because it's based on sexual orientation. How is THAT right? You say if you don't like Gay marriage don't get gay married but what about the person ACTUALLY preforming the ceremony. Do they not have a right to say no? In all the fairness we are also losing our ability to practice our faith as well. A Priest could break the law for saying no. How is that right? What if someone forced YOU to do something you are very much against? What point is fairness imposing on others?

I think the more important question is why are you (they) against it. Because some ancient book that has been translated a million times claims it's wrong? Bullcrap. Hate is hate. Using religion as an excuse is a scapegoat.

And whoever is performing the ceremony, religious or not, is doing so because the state gave them that power. It's not official until that license is processed... by the state.

Nurses and doctors treat patients every single day - white supremacists, gays, straight people, child molesters, etc. They don't and cannot discriminate. So why does some baker or pizzeria owner or priest get to?

I don't watch the show. I don't agree with a lot of their beliefs from what I've read about them. But I don't think there's anything wrong with getting married young and having kids so long as you've got your head on straight and you can support them. In my own very non-religious family, we've had family members who became parents at 19/20 and raised their kids just fine with no public assistance. So I don't see the issue there. However at the same time, they chose to turn their private lives into a tv show. And with that they are opening themselves up to criticism. I don't go out of my way to bash them because I've never seen the show but I can see why they rub people the wrong way. And if you choose to put your life and your beliefs in the public eye then I don't feel sorry for you when people criticize you. Yes they are entitled to their beliefs but others are also entitled to disagree with them.

Nope there is nothing wrong with getting married young and having kids. IF you are supporting yourself, without the help of daddy and are a litttle mature.

Umm plenty of us on these boards get help from our families and not in monetary form.

Both my mother and mother in law watch BOTH of our children so that we don't have to pay for childcare.

My mother is currently letting us live with her while we try and save up money for a down payment.

That is what parents do - they help their children. I would do the SAME thing for my children if they needed it.

So your comment above about only being a responsible parent if you don't require your daddy's help is insulting to say the least.

Oh no, I don't think there is anything wrong with help. This is beyond help, it is to control and they have all sold their selves out now.

These are very valid questions! I think the difference is what is hate in the name of God and what is trying to follow the Bible kwim? I don't hate anyone. I don't care who gets married, and I don't hate people who marry people of the same sex or identify with another gender. I do think it's wrong. I think marriage is clearly stated that it is between a man and a woman just as stated in Genesis and as Jesus reiterated in the Gospel of Matthew. I believe any sexual relations outside of marriage is a sin and since I believe that marriage is between a man and a woman I believe homosexuality is a sin. Again I don't hate anyone because of this, but I don't agree nor support it. I also believe Jesus was also clear Give to Cesar what is Cesar's and give to God what is God's. Therefore I vote based on the people not my religion in this case. My point is not agreeing with someone because of a biblical standpoint doesn't make someone hateful. It makes them faithful to their belief's. As far as loving one another part of that love is to spread the Gospel and this IS a part of it. A small part, but a part to be preached. My issue I guess is the fact people will say this is a sin and the right shouldn't be there, but they also will marry a person who has been divorced for reasons other then adultery. When the adulterous was getting ready to be stoned and Jesus stepped in he said he without sin cast the first stone. No one, but him, could do that. Then he told her to go forth and SIN NO MORE. THAT is the key. Jesus forgave people in love and expected people to listen to the preaching and live better lives. He outlined many things and expected that. He also knows we are sinful and he was the ultimate sacrifice for our sins. Again this is if you are Christian. I am unfamiliar with Jewish laws.

Yes the state gave the church power to make a legal document. How is that not combining the 2? To ask someone to preform a marriage when it is against their belief's is wrong.
Hate s hate. Yes it is, but just because you don't agree doesn't mean you hate someone? Why is this so hard for people to understand? I also think comparing a baker or pizza owner to a priest is apples and oranges. Making a cake for a wedding doesn't bind anyone to anything. Performing the ceremony is creating a marriage that wasn't there. You are violating a persons religious rights. That is why we have seperation of church and state. Not to protect the state but a persons right to practice their religion. I will never understand why it is if you don't agree you are hateful. Lots of religious people read that "ancient"book and go about our lives the best we can and don't hate at all. We don't march or protest, and we vote yes because it's best for the people. It seems like unless you change your opinion 100% you are hateful. Isn't it eough that I voted yes? Why must I also change my religious perspective too?

Great, fine, those are your beliefs. I get that. I'm also finding it difficult to read your posts.

But are you petitioning (with laws) against gay marriage and all the other social issues? I think if you are, then that is pressing your beliefs upon others.

Josh Duggar is in an interesting political position.

I think everybody has a choice, and choosing to follow suit in family tradition is their choice. Obviously not the young kids, but say Jana who is of legal age, she can leave if she wants to, go to college, work etc., but she chooses to stay. I just think how they are raising their kids isn't the issue, because I think they turned out pretty well.

I do agree with you that religion shouldn't be used as a platform to spew hate, it's obviously not intended for that. I'm not familiar with their background stuff, so I can't really comment on it. I will say that it saddens me if that stuff is true, and unfortunately I think there are more people who are against it than for it. Facebook has been a huge eye opener for me in finding out just how many people have different views than myself, and normally I don't mind different views, but equality shouldn't be a view, but a reality.

Comparing them to nazis is really a stretch unless they are advocating for exterminating people, they are not the only religious group in America advocating (including mainstream religions) against homosexuality but only they are comparable to nazis?? Do I agree with their politics, or their views on evolution, homosexuality or most mainstream topics, NO but comparing them to nazis is really going too far.
I watch the show and while I don't agree with their conservative beliefs and find some of them ridiculous, I also don't see children as robots without their own opinions. The girls very clearly have their own minds and voices, obv they are influenced by their parents but what child isn't. Jill's husband went to college and is an accountant and Ben is still in school like he was at the beginning, he is just taking online classes at the same community college.
I see children every day from homes where they have been malnourished, beaten, abused, etc., people really need to put things in perspective

But they ARE abused, they do blanket training which is a form of abuse. They do NOT let them have opinions or do be independent. The girls are NEVER allowed out of the house without something else with them. They are brainwashed that they are only baby machines and you are to have sex with your husband whenever they want. They marry to have sex, nothing else as they KNOW nothing else. They are not even allowed to have a conversation with someone they are courting alone and even on their wedding days they have chaperones.
Jim Boob is a disgusting perverted sex addict who controls each and everyone of them, even his mother who spends her day doing the laundry while they all live in her homes.
Research Gothard and you will learn a lot.

Says who? There are a lot of allegations being thrown around without any evidence unless somrone on here actually knows them. They do have family and friends from what we can see on the show who are not in their church and they have traveled do its not like they aren't aware of the outside world. Those cameras have been there for 10 years, I don't know how they could hide so much bad behavior for that long, they are pretty open about their beliefs in general however ridiculous they seem to be.

Statistically one of them is likely gay and I wonder how they feel. And I cant get on board with anyone who is against gay people. I can't even befriend someone who is anti gay.

don't care that they are having another... They can do as they wish. It's a shame though ..they really need the gay community to help them dress better and lose those awful Laura Ashley Walmart dresses. Chat Icon

Also - and I always think of this when thinking of religious men who are anti gay (like Jim Bob and sons)...

... Like come on ...they don't get off on the thought of two women together ? or watch porn of two women together? Or would love to watch that in real life? Let's get real here.

It's hypocritical.

Jana does NOT have a choice. The ONLY way she can leave is to get married. They have NEVER said she has a choice and if you are aware of what Jana does, Jana is one of the "mother's" like Jill was. Michele would have to do something so they will never allow her to leave anytime soon.

Says the books they have written and anything they have talked about for the last 10 years.
What friends? The majority of these friends are in the same "cult".
You are talking about TV. Of COURSE they hide the bad behavior on there (except many of it is not hidden if you see the things they say and do).

Chat Icon

Josiah is all I am going to say. This whole "courting" is a cover up and it sad that anyone who is gay will never be able to be themselves.
Or David Waller. Come on.

When was the last time you watched them? lol. They all pretty much dress modernly, except for multi milliionaire Michele who wears the same denim skirt, black stockings and black witch shoes. The best she has ever looked was Jessa's wedding.

Also - and I always think of this when thinking of religious men who are anti gay (like Jim Bob and sons)...

... Like come on ...they don't get off on the thought of two women together ? or watch porn of two women together? Or would love to watch that in real life? Let's get real here.

It's hypocritical.

Jim Boob is the biggest perv and sex addict. They don't allow their daughters to show any skin because "boys can't control themselves". How about you teach the boys self-control so the girls are not limited to wearing clothes from head to toe. Big double standard in that cult.

Just found this. Michele looks sooo good and modern here. If only she would stay looking like this on a daily basis. And....run away from JB and go back to how she was in high school. A fun and outgoing person who wasn't controlled and brainwashed.

They've definitely modernized in recent years. They went from being super strict about technology, clothes, makeup to pretty lax, or at least that's how it looks. Apple products everywhere, iphones, selfies, heavy eye makeup, lipstick, nail polish, skirts at knee length (or even slightly above), short sleeves, and a lot of focus on hair. Huge difference IMO.
