Safety Swim

Love? Hate? I hear many conflicting opinions.

DD is almost 4, loves the water, never had official lessons but I'd like her to before summer.

Can anyone PM me or tell me here what they recently paid for a session of private lessons?

My opinion probably won't help too much as it's kind of love/hate:

If I had it to do all over again I probably wouldn't have signed DD up for a winter session. They cancel class all the time, sometimes as you are arriving (which is super fun with a toddler).
You do get to schedule a make up but unless you have the most flexible schedule in the world it is almost never with your actual instructor. Some kids do fine with different instructors but if your kid takes a while to warm up then you really aren't getting the most of the 30 minutes.

That said, my DD's instructor really cares about her and is genuinely excited and proud when she accomplishes something.

We really liked it for DS. I think the initial promotion was like $180 for 6 private lessons and then it was like $270ish for 10 more private lessons. I'm not 100% on what I paid but I remember thinking it was $30 per private lesson and the more you bought the cheaper it was. This was over the summer. He went to the one in Smithtown. He learned a lot and his instructor was great.

I went to the Safety Swim in Commack. We did the Mommy and me class and it was HORRIBLE. The teachers were more interested in talking to each other then interacting with the class. I did not do private lessons there so I cannot comment on that but I will be looking elsewhere for private lessons!

Love saftyswim..dd became an awesome swimmer there..she is 7 now and on the swim team but we started when she was little with sessions in the spring..dd has been going for a while..he is much different then dd was at that age but they have been amazing with him and in Florida last week he was actually starting to swim by himself..he is 4..took a while with him but he is getting there..

I've been taking my son since he was 8 months now he is 25 months and is such a good swimmer. I think it really depends on your instructor. Some plain suck and others are amazing! I go to the one in bellemore

HATED IT!!! I took my DD there when she was 12 weeks and we went for 3 months. It was completely unorganized and I felt like it was run by 14 year olds. They constantly changed instructors and more often then not the class was cancelled due to the pool being compromised.They lost my DD's file with all of her sentsitive info in it like SS# and medical info. We go to the British Swim school in Lindenhurst now. They work out of LA Fitness and I like it so much better.

I think it really all depends on personal experience with the instructor you wind up with. We've been taking our kids to Saf-t-swim in East Meadow for about a year now. Our oldest (who just turned 5) is doing phenomenally well. He had a LOT of fear starting out and there was a bit of changeover with instructors in the beginning but once he ended up with his current instructor, they were a perfect match and he is doing amazingly well. Our second (who just turned 3) also had some changeover with instructors, more than our oldest, in fact, and regressed for a couple months. The instructor he was with then was not a good match for him, and we decided to pull him out after he completed that session. We gave him one session off (6 weeks), and by that point, we knew a number of the instructors. So we requested a specific one for him. He started up again a couple months ago and is now getting back on track and doing really well, showing progression again. We had our youngest taking lessons for a few months over the summer/early fall. She was 2 months when she started. They were wonderful with her, and she loved it. We plan to start her up again this summer.
So, all in all, what I'm saying is, if you can get an instructor who is the right match for your child, it is well worth it. Just may take a little shuffling around at first.
