Is anyone planning to watch this min-series?

I just read a NYT review and it sounds insipid, just like the commercials.

I don't plan on it. I THOUGHT it was a TV show, not a mini.

I was thinking that how can they get a whole season/show out of slapping a kid.

The guy gets booked for child endangerment. He pleads not guilty. The facts come out. He probably serves community service and ordered to stay away from the kid and family.

That's how it would work in the real world.

Hell no. I think we could add it to the thread of "worst shows on television" before it even starts. Haha!

Yes! The commercials for it remind me of an SNL skit.

Exactly! They want to take this "heart-wrenching and serious subject matter" and make it look like a joke!

I guess it's intent is to delve into the discipline debate and all its ramifications, but would anyone sue another family member over something like this?

The whole concept is the most ridiculous thing on television. I really thought it was a joke

It's a ridiculous premise for a show, but I'm going to watch it. Chat Icon

The first time I saw the commercial for it I actually laughed out loud. Plus I think the name makes it even worse

100% Agree.

If they hadn't named it THE SLAP, I guarantee most people would me interested in watching. Or at the very least not dismissing it altogether.

I think this is one of the worst ideas for a tv show ever. I don't plan on watching it. I would sort of like to boycott it. Glorifying violence by putting it on a prime time tv show bothers me immensely.

I watched it, and it was a lot better than those crappy sitcoms mentioned in the other thread (Two and a half men, 2 broke girls, etc)

I watched the last ten mins of it and have to say it hooked me. I love that it's only 8 episodes. I couldn't imagine making an entire show based around this one incident. I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

Re: OK, so like really...The Slap?

I read it's a remake of the Australian (?) version. Which supposedly was very good.

I tried to watch the first episode, I thought it was VERY slow paced and boring. I didn't make it to the end and I won't be going back to watch it again. I didn't like it.

I just watched the first two episodes... it was OK... but I just don't see how they can have a whole TV series around a guy slapping a kid. And in the real world like a PP mentioned the guy would probably just get community service.
