Broadway Discounts

I was checking out some Broadway shows and notice that certain shows are ridiculously expensive.
Example- Book of Mormon. All of the decent seats are over $200 each! Chat Icon

I can't seem to find them on any discount sites either- even for a matinee performance.

Is it just that the more popular shows are that expensive and will never be discounted?

Am I missing something?

I can't spend over $400 for 2 tickets.

Someone else might know better than I do but in my experience the really popular shows don't have discount tickets. I have gotten some good deals from sites like BroadwayBox.com and Playbill.com, but it definitely depends on which show you want to see and when. GL!

Re: Broadway Discounts

Right now, you won't find many discount codes. It's high tourist season and people buy tickets as gifts...generally, November and December don't see too many discount codes.

As for The Book of Mormon...you won't find discounts. It sells out all the time so they don't need to lower the prices to get butts in seats.

There are seats for $169 in the Orchestra and Mezzanine that are just fine. I sat in the Mezz when I saw it and had a great view. You may have to wait awhile for the performance date in order to get tickets at that price point, but it's do-able. It really is a hilarious show. I see most shows since I work in the industry - albeit, always for free, yayyyy perks! - and I always say to myself "if I were to pay regular price for this, would I have been happy with it?" Usually the answer is no. With The Book of Mormon, it's a huge YES.

It tours, too...so if you happen to be going out of town, you may want to see if the show is in whatever city you're visiting. That's a way to get the same experience for less money.

Book of Mormon is very expensive. My DH got the $169 tickets for my birthday and we really didn't have a bad view. Hysterical show though.

Re: Broadway Discounts

Thanks everyone!
I usually get orchestra seats but if you are all saying there are cheaper seats that aren't bad- view wise- I might go for that.
I'd love to see the show- but I can't afford over $400 for tickets alone.

Book of Mormon is just one of those shows that is crazy expensive ALL the time! Right now living social has a deal for Cabaret with Emma Stone and of course Alan Cummings. We just saw Hedwig and the Angry Inch with Michael C. Hall...that was awesome!!

Re: Broadway Discounts

I have to say I was so incredibly disappointed with the Book of Mormon. Unfortunately for us, we had the understudy to the understudy in the lead role for our performance and he sucked. People really did not clap. At the end one of the other cast member actually came out to apologize. Lines kept letting flubbed. It was awful. It cost us about $189 per ticket and we were really disappointed. I wanted a refund and should have asked for one.
