Do you reply "Thank You" to work emails?
Im probably going to sound like a downer here, but I cannot STAND when people reply to every email with a thank you. Totally cool when Ive worked on something long and hard and there was a lot of work to it. But for every single little thing. I get approximately 3-4 emails every minute, on average and to me, its just unnecessary clutter to have to go through in my inbox.
I tend to not reply thank you unless it is REALLY warranted.
What do you do? How do you feel about this?

When I was working I actually found it rude when my boss never said thank you. Not email though, just in general.

I think it depends. I've recently started a senior level management role within the same department and I'm still learning new processes. My department isn't the most helpful or forgiving and there are a few people who have gone above and beyond to make sure I have everything I need (my boss was out for a week so I was very much thrown in). I have sent them emails telling them how helpful they've been and that I really appreciate it. I also try and thank the staff a few levels below me- I was in their position many years ago and it was a thankless job.
On a whole, though, I don't thank everyone for everything!

I always respond with a thank you. It in a way acknowledges that I've received the information needed, and it works the other way too when I send stuff out.
It's only annoying when I'm not directly involved.

Re: Do you reply "Thank You" to work emails?
oh, the best are these younger women that end off emails "please, and thank you" Fa'real?!!
i had an issue with one girl that was new whom I've never met. She was clearly frustrated with her job and hated life. She ended up snapping and hanging up on me.
i called her boss and let her have it. she ended up quiting. but the week after that incident she would only email me and write "please and THANK YOU!" after each email

I get that all the time. I get several hundred emails a day, it's just another one to delete.

Re: Do you reply "Thank You" to work emails?
Depends on who it is and what its for but for the most part I reply with a Thank You. I just think its polite and I do like when someone sends me a thank you. It might be annoying sometimes when its a busy day but it takes 2 seconds to just delete it from my inbox.
what annoys me is the people who reply "No problem" to the Thank You email

No i dont reply "thank you" to every single email.
However, I have no issues at all with people saying thank you in email or in person.

Re: Do you reply "Thank You" to work emails?
only to some. Most of my job revolves around receiving information from people. For normal, expected requests, no. If someone did something quickly because I needed it fast or filled in for someone elses job, then yes.
It doesn't bother me when people send them to me, I just delete.

Some people go way too far. thank you... you're welcome, etc on email and text. so certain people who i know do it for stupid reasons annoy me more than most. that being said, i do it when i am being given information or etc but not excessively!!

I say thank you to confirm I got it ... sometimes I even say "Got it" or "will do"
I see thank you emails (no other msg) and think the same "ok they got it" or well that was nice. ha! I have 574 unread emails in my inbox at this moment.
Do I REPLY to a thank you with a 'you're welcome' .. nope unless its a client or the situation gives me a chance to smooch to one.

Especially when they reply all. So there is like 20 people on the email and they reply all thanks! You're welcome! And 20 people see it.

To the OP. If I got as many email as you I would not reply to all. But in general I do reply to most of them.

I hate thanks, tx or thank you. I feel like it's junk mail.... You think it's going to be something important... And it's just a TX....

Re: Do you reply "Thank You" to work emails?
Usually as an acknowledgement of something.
But, I also don't get hundreds of emails a day.
I also work in a pretty thankless field so I think acknowledgement goes a long way.
There are other things people do with email that are a great deal more annoying.
This is definitely a LIF-ism in terms of annoyances.

I get annoyed when the idiot bookkeeper replies all "your welcome". I actually asked her to stop replying to all when she does that. I don't correct her spelling because maybe everyone else should see what a moron she really is....but that's doubtful.
(She asked me if water evaporated. She told me she was upset that good Friday was on a Saturday. She is in charge of all our money. It's sickening)

I think you make very good points. Maybe because healthcare is such a different animal from the business world (although we could argue it's now one in the same eh?). I also don't get hundreds of emails a day, perhaps if I did it's safe to say i'd never do a thank you unless it was the Admin or something.
I also work with some snakey people who intentionally don't reply and then say 'oh i didn't get that email'...

This. It's more of an acknowledgement that something is done and loose ends are tied up than the actual sentiment of a thank you
