Northport elementary schools
I am new to the area and have a child entering school next year. I am considering public versus private but am not familiar with the schools in the area yet. We are in the Dickinson school district. Any advice?

I grew up in Northport/East Northport SD and the district is great from Elementary though High School!

I would never pay for private in Northport. Their schools are amazing.
I went to Norwood and the Jr high and high school.
Most if the people I grew up with now teach in the schools.

I grew up there and wish I could move back. The schools are solid from top to bottom.

I grew up in Northport and now I live there and my children are in the schools.... I would NEVER pay for Private School because the Schools are phenomenal !!!

My son goes to Norwood but we have lots of friends in Dickinson. I just love love LOVE his school. This district is wonderful!!!!

We are in the district. I went to Dickinson! 
Northport is a fantastic district and I will add to it that even the special education is amazing.
I graduated the Northport district and am so happy my kids will too.

Dickinson is a great school. THe only downside of the district is kindergarten is half day.
I hate, hate, hate Trinity School for many reasons & would never suggest sending a kid there. But St. Paul's also has an excellent reputation.

Thanks everyone. Nrthshgrl I am interested in hearing your opinion on trinity. You can pm me if you want to. Thanks again. What do people do after half day for kindergarten? I work full time so I am trying to figure it out.

My DD is currently in Fifth Ave Kindergarten. Half day sucks. But, there is an extended scope program. For us we drop her off at scope at 8am, she is bussed to her school for PM kindergarten, and then I work part time so she does aftercare scope at her school on my work days.
It's a crazy day but she adjusted very quickly. I really wish we had a full time program. We seem to get more homework than my friends kids in full day districts and I bet we have to do the extra work at home to keep up with the curriculum.
Overall, we have lived here for 5 years and if we ever move we would probably try to stay in the northport district. We love living here.

I know everyone will eye me as crazy-but i am an employee and graduate of the NPT school district. Depsite that, I have decided on sending my kids to Private School. There are reasons for this I won't discuss on a public board. It was what works for my family, our kids, our beliefs, and is a completely personal decision. I would explore all of your options. take people's opinions and then contact whichever schools your'e considering as well as your home school (Dickinson) it's a really great school district ( i know this for sure) but i just wanted to say that there is nothing wrong with considering private if that's what works for you and your family.
ps there is a very good chance f/t K might be brought to the district next year. don't quote me on that but rumor has it.( and it has many times), but this time it seems pretty good. i'll only believe it when i see it!

me too ! this! i didnt move until 8th grade but I have heard great things about Dickinson, Bellerose, ETC
