Is it normal for a toddler to pretty much not eat anything for days while sick?
Dd is 21 months and this is the first times she's been this sick. She's had a fever since Sunday night and cold symptoms and she refuses to eat anything all day except for a couple bites here and there. I took her to the dr on tues and he said its ok if she doesn't have an appetite as long as I keep getting fluids into her. Well she refuses water most of the time too. The only thing she will take is milk.
Now tonight right before bedtime I got her to eat a little bit (very little, but still more than she's been eating since she got sick) but then she threw it all up :( I'm getting so worried. Is this all normal or should I take her back to the doctor tomorrow?

DS had coxsackie recently. He ate nothing for 3 days - only had water and even getting him to drink that was a challenge. If she's wetting at least 3 diapers a day, she's fine! If it continues for over a few days, I'd be concerned and call the dr back.

When my kids have gotten high fevers or really feel icky they don't eat much of anything. They'll drink water but they have no interest in food. When my DD had pneumonia and a 104 fever she didn't eat anything for probably 3 days.
Once they started feeling better they started eating again.

The last time my son was really sick (high fever for 4 days) all he drank was milk. The dr's said it was ok because he was drinking.

I would probably at least call the doctor and see what he says. Usually they tell me if her fever doesn't clear up in another few days to bring her back.

Oh yeah. I NEVER ate when I was little and sick - and my son is a HUGE eater and even he will eat much, much less when he doesn't feel well.
God, to this day I don't eat for days when I'm sick lol and I'm 30!
