My successful external version!

I gave birth 3 weeks ago to my second DD, I finally had some time to post my version experience.

I wanted to put another successful version story out there for anyone else who has a breech baby and is looking for ECV stories.

From 32 weeks on DD was breech. My dr told me he didn't worry about position till I reached 35-36 weeks. I tried EVERYTHING in that time frame to get her to turn. Went to chiro and had the webster technique done twice a week, went to acupuncture and had moxibustion done, did all exercises from spinning babies, did handstands in the pool.....all no good! 36 weeks came and she was still breech.

Since I had a successful vaginal birth with my 1st DD, I really wanted to have another one since my recovery was so quick and easy the first time.

My dr said he would do the version if I wanted and that there was a 60-70% chance it would work. He also said in all his years as an OB he never saw or heard of something bad happening, and that the chance was very rare. I did a lot of research on it and decided I was a good candidate to have a successful one based on two factors.

1.) DD was only in the 30th percentile for weight and smaller babies are easier to turn.

2.) It was my 2nd pregnancy, so my uterus was stretched already which gives more room to turn.

So at 37 weeks, I went into the hospital to have it done. They did routine admitting blood and urine work first just incase the rare chance something went wrong and I had to have an emergency c section. They hooked me up to the fetal monitor for about a half hour before just to make sure baby's heart rate was normal. My dr came in, did a sonogram to check babies position and the position of the cord and saw everything was good, so he did it.

The version itself only took about 45 seconds. My dr went slow and took a couple short breaks in between to check the babies position again with the sono. I'm not going to lie, it hurt like HELL. I just kept taking deep breaths and DH held my hand, but it was over in less than a minute. Baby turned so easily. As soon as he turned the baby head down, they hooked me right back up to the fetal monitor to check the babies heart rate again. They kept me on the monitor for two hours after the version, then they discharged me.

I'm so happy I decided to go through with it bc it was worth the 45 seconds of pain! DD was born vaginally at 39 and a half weeks, and we had an uncomplicated birth. Just wanted to share my experience for others!

That's good to hear!! I worry about that all the time with #2. I too had an easy perfect labor with DC 1, but this is good to know if it's not the case for 2! Congrats!
