I know I'm in the minority but I loved the ending. It just made sense to me. Throughout the years he always went back to Robin. His stories to his kids were about his friends and her, not about the mother. It could have ended at the umbrella scene, but how boring would that be? These last couple seasons were rough but all in all I really loved this show. So many great moments. Going to miss NPH as Barney.

But what was the point of Barney and robin even getting married
Meaning he married someone else not her or vice versa

I wish they had ended it at the train station .
I'm sad that the mother and Ted were together for 10 years (according to buzzfeed), but also that that left Teds 2 kids, ages 8 and 10 (?) dealing with the death of their mother? Obviously it's just a tv show, but that so sad...

It's not dumb at all. I've watched the show all along, and don't think there was a point. This whole entire season took place during their wedding weekend. We find out they divorce in 3 years, so it really aggravated me that we wasted this whole season on their wedding!

I actually didn't mind Robin & Barney splitting up. They never really "gelled" to me and I don't think Barney was ever meant to be a one-woman kind of guy. He's a womanizer and always will be... that's just who he is. I do love that they made him become a dad though... didn't see that coming.
I can't believe the mother really died. It just seemed like such a cheap way of having Ted end up back with Robin. I know it wasn't until 6 years after her death... but still. I was just SO BEYOND done with the Ted/Robin thing that it left me disappointed.
It made complete sense to me that Robin distanced herself from "the gang"... I mean, who would continue to hang out with their exes like that? It wasn't realistic.
All in all, it was a really great series and I enjoyed it (mostly). But after 9 years it was DEFINITELY time to end it! Onto the next!

Well, that was dissappointing.
I liked the realism aspect - like it wasn't just this ending filled with joy. BUT - it wasn't at all funny - even when they tried to be. The whole scene with Barney in the hospital was predictable to me. And I HATE That he had unprotected sex as an over 40 guy in NYC. When he was such a slut to begin with. I'm so glad we didn't watch the entire season.

I HATED the ending. How long was this show on, 8 years or something? 8 years of waiting for Ted to find the one and then they bring in the mother and she is PERFECTLY cast. She was so cute and funny and she really lived up to all of my expectations, and then they killed her off. I would have liked it better if after he met her at the train station, they jumped FORWARD 40 years to the gang all sitting on the front porch together being crotchety old folks. Tracy would have passed the front porch test.
Meanwhile, even though it had been 6 years, the kids seemed a little OVERLY enthusiastic about their dad asking Aunt Robin out. He just spent forever telling them a story that pretty much was about how he spent a decade pining over their Aunt, but she wouldn't take him back until it was not an appropriate time to get back together, so he couldn't be with her.....but then he met their mom so good news!
Stupid show. NO way am I watching How I met your Dad after these shenanigans!

OK, at first, I hated it... I hated that that's what they did with the mother, made me too sad... But, after thinking about it and talking about it, I decided I really kinda love it. He has ALWAYS loved Robin, from the moment he first saw her. But the same was true for the mother. He loved her so passionately, there was no doubt that she was meant to be with him. At the same time, his love for Robin was always there, on hiatus during his time with the mom, but there.
HE HAD TWO SOUL MATES!!! And I love that that was a bit of the point. That someone can have two people (or more) that they are destined to be with. I see my MIL who has been widowed for over 10 years, and all I can think is that I wish she had someone like that to make her happy again.

I agree word for word. If I hadn't read the predictions that the mother was going to end up dying I absolutely would have thought it would have ended with the mother being part of the gang in the end
