38 weeks 1 day and....

I was at the doctor yesterday for a check up and had to go back today for something. I saw the same doctor both days (my practice has a few doctors and you rotate through them). I know him and like him BUT both days he mentioned more than once that my baby is full term and wold thrive and be perfect if born today. He seems put off, maybe even surprised, when I say I want my baby to a) cook as long as possible and b) come on his own if at all possible. Maybe lots of women at this point are so uncomfortable they ask for induction? But I don't want that. He said next week we will put a date on the calendar for an induction, but we can push it as far as 41w5d if I really want....and then AGAIN stressed that the baby would be fine if he came any time. I'm not one to be easily pressured so it's fine I just found this so interesting!

good for you for telling your dr you want to wait!
I did the same thing with DD, my dr told me she could come anytime and be healthy. at my 39 week appointment she discussed induction, i almost cried. She said ok come in at 40 weeks and we will talk more. 40 weeks came and she was estimating the baby to be close to 9 lbs so again she mentioned induction and again she saw my hesitation. She told me the longest she would let me go would be 42 weeks. Based on wanting her to be my doctor we scheduled an induction for 41w5d. DD decided to come at 41w1d
im glad i waited

I'm happy to put the latest date possible on the calendar now, and then hope the baby comes earlier. That's my plan for next week - I'm going to ask for the latest possible induction date.

Definitely hold out as long as you can. I had an induction, which I thought I wanted at the time. But now with all the knowledge I have post baby, I wish I had pushed back on my doctor to let me go longer.

Can I ask why? Only because I am contemplating scheduling my induction in January.

I hate when dr's try to pressure you for their convenience or whatever.

My dr and nurse thought I was crazy when I told them I wanted the later scheduled c-section date that they offered me. But I want this guy to cook as long as possible!

My DD was 10 very long days late. My doctor would not induce until 2 weeks past. I was glad, because I wanted to feel the excitement of it being "time".

At my practice they induce after 41 weeks but before 42. So that's the time frame I have to work with.

As of yesterday baby has not dropped, I'm not dilated but I'm 50% effaced. I think I still have a while.

I don't think your dr was pushing an induction now. It sounds more like if you went into labor now you'd be fine.

I had my ds at 37 weeks so maybe that's why I read it that way but I'm not even sure they would Schedule an induction this early unless medically necessary

All the docs in the practice are different with induction. With my 1st, my doc (alkasab)induced me 5 days past my due date, with my 2nd the doc wanted to induced me ON my due date. I think it depends on what doc you have and when it's convenient for them. Hope you go on your own though!

Thanks! This is Sternchos saying this. My doctor is Gilbert but I haven't seen her since 36 weeks, so she didn't talk induction with me. I'm really taking a wait and see, day by day approach. Next week at 39 weeks if he wants me to schedule it I will - but I won't schedule it for earlier than 41 weeks 5 days. I just want to give this kid the chance to do his own thing!

He's a great Doc, but i'd definitely try and see Gilbert and schedule a possible induction with her since she is your main doctor there. Unless you really want him to deliver your baby. I don't blame you for wanting to wait it out! Lots of luck!
