Does anyone have a really hard time deciding on resorts at Disney?

We're trying to decide on a 2014 trip (most likely December)

And just can't narrow it down.

Any input?

We never went back to the room either. My DDs were 4 1/2 & 2, & we were up early everyday for rope drop & back after parades/fireworks. If they napped, it was in their stroller.

Right now stuck between AOA, Port Orleans, or a deluxe, just because we know many days will be at MK, seeing new attraction opened & scheduled to open....BUT is the expense that worth it?!

Totally worth the extra money if you don't want to spend your days traveling back and forth for awhile to get to places. It is great just to hop on the monorail and go.

If you're going to be spending the majority of your time at the Magic Kingdom I would go with something you can get to via the monorail. We are going in a few weeks and since DS is little we are splitting our time between MK and Epcot (since he's really not going to know the difference) but we're staying at the Beach Club for the convenience of the short walk to Epcot and then from Epcot we can monorail it to MK. I've stayed at Port Orleans but I'm not a fan of the shuttles... I always feel like my hotel is the last stop whenever I have stayed at the Caribbean Beach or Port Orleans LOL!

When we went last year we stayed at the Poly. And we did MK, AK, E, & HS). We might only do 1/2 days HS & E, & rest MK.

That's an interesting point about Beach Club, are there any other resorts with that option? (this is what I don't know about Disney)

Yes!! Right now I'm torn between Contemporary and Caribbean. Big price difference but I love Contemporary for convenience and I love Caribbean for the pools.

VERY interesting point about the beach club resort. I didnt even think about taking the monorail from Epcot!

Back to the drawing board lol...

Yeah, I'm waiting to hear back about what the deluxe rates will be, then we'll decide if it's an option to do again.

Yacht Club, Beach Club and Boardwalk are all "walk to Epcot" resorts. Be aware, however, that if you plan on taking the monorail to MK from Epcot, the entrance from the resort area in Epcot is in world showcase (right by the bridge in between France and the UK). You will have to walk through Word Showcase and future world to the front of Epcot in order to get to the monorail.

Yup and it's quite a hike IMO! I personally wouldn't stay at the Beach Club for the sole reason of being able to use the monorail to the MK. Also, you need park hoppers to do this.

The bus transportation to the parks from this resort is a crapshoot IMO, since it stops at Swan & Dolphin and Boardwalk also. We stayed at Yacht Club a couple of times (connected to Beach) and I hated the buses.

Ok, makes sense!

How are the buses? I think we only used them 2 times. I remember them being really crowded one night.

Yes! There are just too many choices.

Last time, we stayed at Polynesian but that was more because our friends wanted to stay on the monorail. We are going next week and I chose Wilderness Lodge. I kind of regret it because I think the boys may have enjoyed Arts of Animation or Animal Lodge better. Oh well. Guess we'll have to stay there next time.

Re: Does anyone have a really hard time deciding on resorts at Disney?

Yes, I had analysis paralysis too.

Look at the theming, the pools, the transportation options, dining, and the price. Those to me are the major factors. Think of how important each category is to you and eliminate from there.

There is nothing like a deluxe but if you are really just sleeping in the room and not going back for naps - meaning if you're just there for the parks and a few nice meals - you might want to try one of the values.

The other thing to think about is you said you might do 1/2 days at HS and Epcot; what would you do with the rest of the day? Depending on the answer you might want to consider an Epcot/HS resort - Boardwalk, beach/yacht Club, or Swan/Dolphin. Beach/yacht Club has an incredible pool and you have the festive atmosphere of the Boardwalk. Swan and Dolphin are a little more reasonable, too.

If you stay at one of those you can enjoy your resort after your 1/2 day at each park, plus if your DC fall asleep in the stroller in the afternoon you won't have to fold it up because you can walk or take the boat to your room.

We stayed at Boardwalk and it was SO nice to take a leisurely stroll through the countries on our way back to the hotel in the afternoon as my son feel asleep in the stroller. Then we went back at night but if you're done with the park you can always have a nice dinner in Epcot.

Think of it this way - if you love your resort, great. If not, you'll just have to go back to try another resort.Chat Icon
