Did you get all of your materials? We didn't get everything we need to start yet.

I feel duped by ready gen. I don't see how the scaffolding instruction is going to happen when the lessons are so long. They forget we have to teach other subjects when they write these programs.

Here is a glimpse at days 1,2 3:
day 1 read stellaluna, discuss, then focus on 3 pages.
day 2 read stellaluna (again), discuss, then focus on 3 MORE pages.
day 3 read stellaluna (a THIRD time), discuss, then focus on 3 MORE pages.

Stellaluna is a wonderful book, not to mention a bit long. But THREE times??? A little overkill?

And the student workbook? So poorly designed. The activities for 5 lessons are on one page. They kept all of the concepts together so day 1 lessons are scattered over several pages rather than keeping all day 1 lessons together. No way they consulted teachers. Forget special ed kids...they weren't even given a second thought.

Go Math? Don't even have the teachers guides. Guess what? As much as I hated Everyday Math, I appreciate those first few lessons because that's what I'll be doing.

I don't want to complain but this is a joke! The CC was a mistake. I get the premise. States aligned. Great idea. But it was rushed out and now the kids are going to suffer and we're going to go crazy.

Re: Thoughts on Ready Gen?

Glad to see we are not the only school with sparse ReadyGen materials.

My school didn't even buy into it. I know it's not great, but considering we don't have a program and are told balanced literacy is our program, I would love anything at this point!

The lessons are incredibly long..I don't know when small group work is supposed to happen, if at all, and the kids are not actually reading or practicing reading skills at all...

I'm going to be honest. I'm so sad and disheartened by this program. and I went to the curriculum fairs and actually advocated for it with my colleagues. I regret my decision. I wish wish wish we could have kept our old program but b/c it wasn't common core aligned, that wasn't an option.

We are to read Stellaluna for almost 3 weeks. THREE WEEKS on a picture book??? And the workbooks? They are a JOKE!

Ready for this? My first graders, on page 3, are expected to write SENTENCES on the following words: escaped, survived, trembling, clumsy, branch, and perched. How is that developmentally appropriate for 5 and 6 year olds?

That is a GREAT idea! I have a feeling the workbook is going to be wasted and I'll be making copies.

We have them do the work from it in a classwork notebook...they do not give enough space for what they want and right now, we are doing everything whole class so they can learn how to do things and I don't know about your workbooks, but ours are sectioned off in an awkward way so I have them using 2 different colored small post its to denote sections so they can get to where we need to be since the book starts at page 1 three times...oy...

I actually am liking it and my kids like the fifth grade book. The lessons are long but I am going to modify them to meet my time demands and the needs of the kids. We had TC and I think the reading part is good and the end of module assessments are good. The writing I am not loving all of it but I will also incorporate what I did foe narratives for this also. It is a resource and has great questions in it and writing prompts. I am really enjoying at least havin materials and a direction.
