My dh and i are looking at rockville centre to buy a home. I am not from li can you guys share some info in the area that may be useful?
Family friendly? Stuff for kids to do? Friendly overall or snobby? Pros/cons? Shopping close by like food? Clothes? Safe?
I know the school district is tops so im not too concerned.

Don't live there but I am close to the area and frequently go there. Yes family friendly Lots of programs at the rvc rec center and library Lots of good restaurants to choose from and grocery stores for food shopping. For clothes I would shop at Roosevelt field mall. Close to major parkways and not far into Long Island.

Re: rockville centre
I recently moved to this area.
Pros - Express LIRR train to Penn is 34 minutes (one train doesn't even stop at Jamaica),
I live within walking distance to everything (this is not the case with all the areas of town) - but I can walk to the post office, the bank, the doctor, eye doctor, deli, pharmacy, dry cleaner, religious services, library - this was great when I was on maternity leave.
Great rec center.
Lots of restaurants.
Great schools - the high school is very well ranked, even among LI schools.
Older homes - I live in a 1908 home that has renovations - I love the older styles - but this may be a con for some people.
Cons - Taxes aren't great
Property sizes aren't great - but that is true for a lot of places in Nassau
No official community pool
