Finn (Glee) wont die of overdose

Glee creator Ryan Murphy has revealed exactly how they plan to honor Cory Monteith/Finn Hudson in the special tribute episode airing this October. Speaking to Dateline as he promoted his television show’s Emmy prospects, Murphy admitted that at one point they were considering having Finn die from an “accidental drug overdose.” They’ve since changed their mind. “We have decided that we’re not going to have him pass from that. Basically, what we’re doing in the episode is we are not telling you yet, or maybe not at all, how that character died. The idea being, how somebody died is interesting and maybe morbid, but we say very early on in the episode, “This episode is about a celebration of that character’s life.” That might be weird for some people, but it felt really exploitative to do it any other way.”

As a "Gleek" I'm actually really happy to hear this. I felt like any other way was an exploitation.

There's part of me that agrees with you but there's another part of me that feels like Glee has a responsibility to all the kids out there that idolize these actors, to address this VERY real problem in our society. WE are being carded for buying nail polish remover these days for fear that kids are making METH out of it for Pete's sake !!! I think they have a responsibility to say the hard things and show the truth. Not cover it up or keep it hush hush. DRUGS KILLED CM! Nothing else. For a show that toes the line (well really leaps over the line most of the time) regarding all the serious issues facing today's youth, I think it does Cory's memory a disservice to not at least TRY to send the message that this too could happen to you. And this is the ugly REAL result! JMO

Well I know they're shooting a whole bunch of PSA's about drug addiction but I think they just aren't going to make "Finn Hudson" die of an overdose but they're definitely not sweeping Cory's OD under the rug. Its more of a celebration of his life and a grieving process.

I agree with all of this. I just hope they don't make him out to be some hero, because that would send the absolute wrong message to impressionable Tweens and teens.
