Need nap help

DS will be 3 months on the 24 th. Starting on Friday he had a fever and our pediatrician sent us to the er.. .. Seems he had a touch of coxsackie. He has had no fever since Saturday. On the same day he started refusing his paci, which he only used for naps. Then on Sunday he started struggling in his swaddle since he recently found his hands which he likes to put in his mouth. We took him out of the swaddle and he slept normally, gives us 7-8 hour stretches, so nighttime is no issue thankfully.

So on top of being sick he now has no paci and no swaddle for naps. He'll have difficulty falling asleep, if he does on his own its for 10-15 mins then wake up crying. If I take him for a ride in the car and then put his car seat on the swing he'll sleep for a good while. And if I hold him he'll sleep. He self soothes at night, but not during naps. I've tried the swing, bouncey seat, crib. I've bought 5 different types of pacis. White noise does help at times, and he likes to hold a blanket, but it's not a soothing device yet.

Is this behavior due to being sick or a change in habit? I don't want him to become reliant on being driven around or held because once he starts daycare they obviously can't do that.

Any advice??

Re: Need nap help

When my ds had cox sacklike he had blisters in his mouth. I couldn't get home to eat or drink anything for a week. He didn't take a pack but I am sure it's related to being sick. Maybe try rocking him to sleep.

Sounds pretty typical for 3 months old, actually. At that age, DS would only nap in his swing, in his stroller on a walk or in the car. But he slept perfectly in his crib overnight.

I'm assuming you want him to nap during the day in his crib? I say just do whatever works. When he's ready to nap in his crib, he will. Babies change so often anyway.

DS is now 6.5 months old and will only nap in his crib. He's too alert when we go out for walks in the stroller, and he likes to roll around so he hasn't been in his swing for almost 2 months.
