Need to find a babysitter but...
I'm so nervous. Me and DH need to have someone we can call if we need to go somewhere, have date night, etc. I am tired of having to depend on family. I signed up for care.com and then got super nervous. I wish i could find someone through someone I know but there isn't anyone yet. If you've used a service, how do you trust these people who are basically strangers? I'm having anxiety about it

You sound exactly like me. I felt the same way. We are lucky to have my parents live close, but they have more of a life than me and I don't want to take advantage. I also signed up for care.com too.
Actually my SIL just signed up for care.com to be a sitter or nanny, but she lives on LI if you are interested to interview. I could give a good ref but you don't know me either. Lol
I'm lucky my neighbor has used some teens in the area she'd recommend so may give them a call one day. Just try it out so I will run to the store for an hour or so and see how they liked her

does your DC go to daycare. I know people have used teachers from thier daycare. right now i can use family but if i couldnt that would be myf irst choice

My SIL uses care.com all the time and she gets the best babysitters.

Need to find a babysitter but...
My kids go to day care part time but I also wanted someone for date night and as a back up. We just signed up for care.com for the month, and also did the back ground checks. I wound up finding 2 sitters we really like.

DS will be going to Kindergarten and DD is 2. She will be going to a toddler program twice a week. That is a good idea!

We used care.com. Called a bunch of references and went with my gut. We LOVE our babysitter!

We used care.com to find our nanny and found a few great women on there. I'd trust it. Once you sign up you can request free access to basic background checks. We also paid for the more thorough background check. I also did reference checks, both through the site and on my own. Then I had the nanny here for a few days while I was home to make sure I was around while DS and her got used to each other. I spent a few hours with her showing her how I do things. Then left her alone while I was in the other room. Then went out for short errands while she was with DS.
You might not need to do ALL this if it's just a babysitter and not a nanny, but do whatever makes you feel comfortable.
