Dd (almost 2) fed ds (almost 7 months) some of her peanut butter. She had a little on her spoon and I had a sneezing fit so I grabbed a box of tissues from my hall closet. Not even two seconds later, I realize ds has pb on him, on his exersaucer, etc. It was on his hands so I'm sure he ingested some. He seems fine...no hives, acting normal. How long would a reaction take to come out? is it safe to put him down for his morning nap?

I *think* peanut reactions are fairly immediate, at least they were with my neice when her allergy was discovered. I'd be concerned too, but after an hour or so with no reaction, I'd say all is good.

if he has had no reaction over the course of an hour or so I don't think i would be concerned.

My ped said that new research says early exposure is best. This is what the apa has now adoptd. Ask your doctor, but the whole waiting til their two for pb exposure has been phased out. If no reaction, you are good to go! Only stay away from honey and real syrup (bochulism concerns)

DS has a severe peanut allergy. The first time he tried peanut butter at 16 months he only had a VERY mild reaction (1 hive and 1 eye got a little swollen) and it was hours later after his nap. I didn't even notice. The second exposure was immediate and severe. I've heard this is pretty common for peanut allergies. Keep an eye out for hives (not just on the face but anywhere on the body, his was on his hand), itchy/swollen eyes or lips, lethargy or excessive sweating.

I would not be worried at all... there was no reaction, he is fine!

My ped told me that if a child has a peanut allergy, the first exposures will be mild reactions like hives. I wouldn't be concerned about putting your LO down or a nap.

My ped told me after the second or third exposure is when symptoms/reactions will show.

Glad to hear he is doing fine. But keep an eye on him on his second/third try. As the previous posters and their doc suggested, it is the follow up exposure that leads to trouble if they are allergic. The first one just primes the body to recognize PB as something it doesn't know but the follow up exposure leads to a massive ramp up in the response. But you should be ok!

It has to be eaten twice to have a reaction. Also if your first isn't the second most likely isn't but that isn't always.
