6 mth old hand movements
DD was 6mths old this week. The Dr at the last visit said she is meeting all milestones and is advanced. She scoots, great head control, eye contact, smiling and laughing. Cooing. Since then she has added sitting up and saying "mama" and "more".
I've noticed recently that she will move her fingers and hands in a weird way like she is strumming a harp or guitar. It's not all the time, but I've noticed it more than once. Is this just a way to use up energy or should I be concerned? We don't see the doctor for her 6mth well until Monday and I'm freaking a little. I'm a worrier by nature.

I'm sure she is fine. Starting at that age, my dd would do.a rapid hand movement, like her hands would just go crazy. We called them her jazz hands. It's their way of letting out excitement.

My DS has been making those hand movements since before he even discovered his hands. Even when he picks up toys, he turns them back and forth quickly like he's miss America waving in a pageant. He's 9 months now and perfectly fine.

DS is 5 months and move his arms and hands all different ways all the time! I just assume it is how he shows excitement, gets out energy, etc! He does it more the more excited he is!

Hailey has very jerky hand movements but when shes laying down or drinking a bottle she moves her hands like you are saying or at least how i think you are saying. I try to video it but shes too aware of the phone. lol

DS is 6 months old today. When he crawls, sometimes he stops with his hand in mid air, looks at it and wiggles his fingers in weird ways...then he falls, haha! I think it's perfectly normal!

My DD started making weird hand gestures around 3 months. She would fall asleep with her hands in these odd, what we called “gang signs”, lol. She just recently found her hands and her hands go wild at times. I think it is excitement and the eagerness to want to grab everything. Totally normal!

DD used to do that too, but when going to sleep. Her hands would just not stop moving, and she'd twirl her feet in circles while playing, in high chair, stroller etc. She eventually grew out of the foot twirling prob by 18 mos. I think it's just extra energy. She's totally fine, talkative and energetic 2.5 yr old now
