I am at the point

where I think I would rather commute two and a half hours every morning to work full time than to spend another minute with my soon to be four year old. She has become defiant and started screaming lately. I wonder if its jealousy b/c she was an angel until my DD was born. PLEASE someone tell me it gets better...

I am with you! My DD is four and I have a 5 month old dd too. She's great with the baby but all she does is whine and talk back to me and my husband. Sometimes I think she is 14 and not 4! Between my baby teething and the older one whining, I run to work everyday!

I am ready to kill my 4 year old. Baby isn't even here yet and he's a monster. I never seen such defiance, back-talking, and freshness in my life. I have no idea what to do.

Re: I am at the point

We never had terrible 2s or 3s with my DD, but 4 has been just awful! Where she used to be the most sweet-tempered child in the world, she is just so defiant... fresh... just overall DIFFICULT!

It gets better though. My 7 yr old is an absolute dream, and he went through the same stage at 4.

Re: I am at the point

My DD never had Terrible 2's or 3's but 4 was interesting. It's not so much that she' was "bad", more that she was constantly testing her limits with us. She has an opinion now (on everything) and basically every day her main task was to see what she could get away with. She wanted to do what she wanted to do when she wanted to do it.

When DS arrived this past March she was amazing with him but quickly realized I was down and out and busy with the baby so she starting testing DH and I more and more. It didn't last long, as soon as I was up and feeling better I was on her like white on rice and she got over that nonsense fast Chat Icon

She'll be 5 in September and I've noticed the past few months she's maturing a little more and she's more mellow and cooperative. Seems like we're past the worst of it. LOL. Hang in there, it gets easier. Chat Icon

Re: I am at the point

Wow! Thought it was only my 4 yr old. I hear 2 is bad, but 3 is worse. Yes, that was the case. He was getting a little better and now he's getting fresh. Talking back and saying No, starting trouble with his younger brother, etc. He's an angel at school. Oh well... at least he's good there. LOL

Re: I am at the point

OMG.. I am also right there with you! My almost 4 year old is so defiant too. Tells me no all the time..sticks her tongue at me.doesnt listen when I tell her too. She looks at me and smirks as iam telling her do it again and your in timeout. Timeout has been more of a timeout for me then her since she doesnt even care when i put her in timeout. Me and my DH lose our patients so quickly especially since we have a 2 month old so our sleep hasnt been great. I hope she gets better when she turns 4!! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

I'm so grateful for this post! I guess misery loves company...I am right there with you. My formerly sweet-natured boy is now a defiant brat! He tests limits all day and pushes my buttons to see what he can get away with. DH and I say he's like the Hulk, one minute he's calm Bruce Banner and the next minute he's a raging HULK! And just like the Hulk it can be hard to calm him down. I'm hoping that this is a phase that passes quickly, but I'm not holding my breath. Chat Icon
