Re: What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
What do they care???
Tell them that they can pay her orthodontia bills. My dentist says he can tell by someone's baby teeth, who used a pacifier past the age of 2. It's bad for the teeth, and they might as well learn how to soothe themselves.
Also, it does NOT mean that they will suck their fingers/thumbs instead. My two never did.

I'd post a link to the CTFD parenting approach article. In case you haven't read it.

While it was unsolicited advice, she wasn't harsh or rude about it. Just don't respond.

What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
I have twins and one of them takes a binky. They are 21 months today & 1 month ago just started making them leave in crib so can use at night only. I am sure it's not helping with teeth but I think if a child needs braces it wont be because of binky at this early age...maybe if they used for couple of years. Just my opinion.
Do whats best for you momma!!!!!!!!!

I have to ask, did you say something on the picture something that related to the paci? Otherwise I don't see how they would get that from a just a picture of a baby sleeping in a high chair.

I agree. Maybe she's a BTDT mom and is just trying to help. A pacifier at that age isn't going to cause dental issues and, honestly I don't think a 16 month old really does understand - toddler or not, no matter how smart they are. So - I don't think your friend is wrong and maybe she is just trying to help...is she someone close to you that was maybe upset by you posting that your DD "fought for an hour?"

I wouldn't even reply. You are always going to have someone say something. I had a stranger old lady lecture my on giving my kid a paci. After she was done lecturing I just said what's next bf or formula? Have a nice day.. Do what you want. Being a former thumb sucker I would think that would be worse. Eventually you will have to do it so what does it matter.

Yes! I wrote something about her fighting her nap for an hour. So she knew.

It was my dad's cousin so she's older. Just annoyed me. Is she really too young to take it away?? I thought 12 months is what the dr suggested.

I think you have to do what works for you and your DD. My DD was a thumb sucker and my ped told me not to even try to stop it until she was 2 and that it wasn't even necessary until over 3. He said it wasn't doing her any harm at that age and she was too young to understand taking it away under 2 and would be more traumatizing...

Oh wow. I thought I was doing her a favor before she became even more addicted to it. Thought it would be harder later on.

LOL you underestimate the power of bribery once they hit the age of reason
All joking aside - do what works for you and, don't post it to FB so you don't have to listen to every tom, **** and harry's opinion on the subject of your child
Good luck! I know it's not easy!

Re: What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
I think sometimes people don't think....I probably would have said similar and not realized it could have been taken rude or overstepping. As a mom of 3, two used the paci and my one who didn't, who was off the bottle by 1 years old, etc - is so far the only one the dentist said anything about his teeth (and his speech - yet he was my fasted talker and always was very articulate - lol)! I didn't take my 1st away until 3 (but limited to only sleeping times or in crib after 18 mos old and am doing the same for my 2 yr old now). I wouldn't worry to much about teeth.
Everyone will have an opinion on what you are doing and some will upset you. I'd just let it fly. If anything, just say I am trying to do it before it becomes harder and let it drop.

What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
I'm glad you took it away. With my 1st DD she was still on the pacifier at 3 1/2 years. She would not give it up. Now she would go to nursery school and tell me to hide it(she did not want her classmates to see her with it). It was a nightmare! With my youngest DD she stopped at 10 months. I had 3 pacifiers and if she lost one I would not buy another before you knew it she had none left. She cried but after a couple of days she forgot about it.

I don't think you have to say anything - you are the mom and this is the decision you made.
While she might not have been rude about it directly- I kind of think its ballsy for her to comment on it at all.
stick to your guns mama

Re: What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
Just ignore it. Everyone has different opinions on this (and everything else ). All I know is that I work with a bunch of speech therapists, and they are big proponents of getting rid of the bottles, pacis, etc. I plan on working on the paci over winter break in December. DD will be 18 months, and I'll be off all week to cope with the lack of sleep.

Why say anything to them. By responding to comments on B+FB you are asking for drama....not worth it.

Don't feel judged just because you're doing what works for you. It is right if it works for you! Stick to your guns, and don't worry about people's comments. The only ones who have the right o judge your job as a mommy are your gut and your instinct.

Thanks girls! I didn't say anything. I had that initial feeling of her judging me when I saw it so immediately you want to react, but I came on here first. We're on 2 nights now with no paci. I feel like nap time is harder for her. We'll see today.

Ignore it - If you don't want comments about your parenting decision from the peanut gallery don't post about your decisions. I really think she was just offering advice from her perspective. We all have different views and opinions when it comes to food, pacis, babas, etc
As a mom of paci addicts if you can take it away now go for it. The older they get the harder it is :)

What to say to FB friends who disagree with taking paci away
Usually when someone gives me unsolicited (and seemingly judgmental) parenting advice, I do what my mother taught me, smile and say "Thank You" and go about my business. Of course on Facebook you can't really show the passive aggressive reaction you really want to give. But if I were you, I'd either ignore completely or respond, "Thank you, Jane! :)"
