Ear piercing question

DD is 9 weeks and I would like to get her ears pierced within the next couple of weeks. My question is if you got your DDs ears pierced did you go to a jewelery store or have them done by the pediatrician and why? If you gotnit done by the ped, how did they pierce them? Also what kind of earrings did they put in and were they hard to clean? How much do you think it hurts them?

Clearly, I'm over thinking this! The reason I ask is because my ped does do it, but they don't use a gun. They ice the lobe and use a needle. Plus, they use gold screw back posts. I'm just not sure how I feel about that procedure and I'm not sure if it would be better/quicker/more painless to go the jewelery store route.

Any feedback is appreciated!

My daughter is almost 9 weeks old as well. I was thinking of going soon too. My sister brought her twins to the mall when they were a little older. They were fine in a few minutes. They also used gold screw earrings. My kids ped doesn't do it so we are going the mall route. GL

we are going to our ped to get it done - they use a gun and i think gold screw back earrings

i know plenty of people that did it at the mall though and had no problems. personally, i would go the mall route if my doctor used a needle

My ped did it at the 6 month check up. I personally felt it would be more sanitary getting it done by the actual Dr. They used a device (not exactly like a gun, I don't think*) but it pierced her ear w/ the actual earring...gold diamond studs with safety locking backs.

Re: Ear piercing question

We are going to have our jeweler do it. I trust hi m and he has done it a million times. Ask your doctor though when she can have her ears pierced. Ours told us we had to wait until after her 3 month vaccinations.

Re: Ear piercing question

My ped wouldn't do it til 4 mo. Not sure if its their rule. I did it at the end of their apt after a shot and being roughed up by the dr so they cried of course. The stopped as soon as I gave them bottles.

Ear piercing question

Most places recommend 4 months. Piercing pagoda in the malls pierce tons of babies, they use a gun and have screw back earrings.

Re: Ear piercing question

My ped won't pierce ears till 6 months and they told me they preferred me to go to a jeweler since they pierce ears all the time. I went to pagoda and they used screw backs. I pierced DD ears at 3 months, she cried while they did it and was calm in a few minutes and actually calmed down faster that she does with her shots...It wasnt difficult to clean we just made it part of our morning and nighttime routine.

Ear piercing question

My ped had us wait till 12 weeks, but I had it done at a dr office. They put a numbing gel on for an hour (we went home, then came back) and they used a special gun with bioplast earrings that look like diamonds. Fm me if you would like her info. She was wonderful! Measured and re-measured till they were perfect!

my ped does it at 6 mos. The have disposable "guns" They opened the package in front of me. One for each ear. They used a gold ball type earring with a safety back. Those things were not easy to get off, which is the point. they were the best earrings we had. haha

I would not be comfortable with the way you described. For dd2 I think I may do the mall piercing pagoda. I did not like the way my dr did dd1 earrings. they are to far up and in the middle.

Ear piercing question

We went to Piercing Pagoda only because my ped wouldn't do it. They used a gun and DD literally cried for a few seconds and then was totally fine. Cleaning them isn't difficult at all. I would just soak a Q-tip witht he solution and swab it around the earring.

Re: Ear piercing question

My ped used regular opened backs and it scraped the back of her ear so I bought safety backs. They also did one ear at a time. Chat Icon Chat Icon

DD was able to sit when we did them. If I could do it again I'd go to piercing pagoda where they do both sides at once and use the safety backs.

Ear piercing question

We did hers at 5 months at piercing pagoda because our Ped didn't do it. They did one ear at a time but the girl was really fast. They have safety backs do they have been fine as they heal. She doesn't mess with them but doesn't always like to get them cleaned. So the earlier the better!
