i just got this camera and have been playing around with it.

what is the best mode to photograph your baby?

i want to take monthly pics, christening pics etc. her room gets a lot of natural light, so i want to take advantage. i know to use no flash, but how do i change the aperture? and what to i change it to?

i am an extreme novice so i need directions like a 5 year old lol.

Since you just got it, i would practice in Auto... assuming you have the standard lens with auto focus..

for taking pics of only the baby, i'd use Portrait mode. It'll add a little softness to the pictures and they'll look nicer and more professional.

I also would suggest you don't use the flash. Pictures without flash are almost always better, IMO. To do this, i usually use Program mode (the P on the options dial) but newer versions of the Rebels have an "Auto without flash" mode.

If you want to learn how to use your camera properly classes are held at berger brothers. It's pretty inexpensive and will help guide you to take photos.

I just wanted to add that the more you are the photographer the less you are a part of the photographs.

not that i know of, sorry.

but then again, i don't really use portrait mode all that often so there might be a way and i just don't know it yet.

if i had to chose one, i'd just turn off the flash.
