Re: When did you get rid of the pacifier?

Only about a month ago, and DS will be 3 in September. For the past year, he only used it for sleeping so it never left the crib. I was dreading taking it away, but DH and I were shocked at how non-eventful it was! One night I just put him in the crib for bed and told him that he was a big boy now and only babies used binkies. He was a little upset and looked around for it for the next couple of nights, but I just kept talking up the "baby" thing and he eventually stopped looking for it. That was the end of that! I couldn't believe it!!

Ditto! DD just turned 3 and she still begs for it in times of upset and for bed.
If she is upset she will throw a fit- I am talking screaming, writhing hysterics- until we give it to her.
I liken it to a drug addict. No joke.
It is epic.
She can't seem to calm herself without it.
It kills me.
I wish I would have taken it away sooner and just dealt with the consequences then- rather than now!

I also have to give it up. I have twins but only one takes it. They are 20M. I think its time but not ready to deal with it.

This is my DS!!!

He goes insane if he doesn't have it. I alwaus say its like crack for him.

He needs it when he's tired, sleeping and upset.

I don't have it in me to have ihim CIO - mostly because I'm too scared to deal with his reaction to not having it.

He just doesn't know how to NOT have it. No amount of distraction or bribery works when it comes to his 'dado' (his name for it).

Once we potty train this will be the next venture. If he can at least cut down to just nighttime use, I can deal.

4 months we got rid of it.

This.

For those of you who did it at 4 months how did you do it? Are you SAHMs or do your LOs go to day care. I want to start taking it away from him but I have a feeling day care is going to ask me to still bring it in for "emergencies" and I know I don't have to but I don't want to make their lives more difficult either since they're with him all day. Any tips/suggestions?

I took it away at 4 months .... I hate pacifiers, seeing a toddler walking around with a paci drives me CRAZY

I took it away on a weekend. he was a little fuzzy. when he was fuzzy, i picked him up, distracted him. Monday ...no paci to daycare. I never gave the paci at night, only if I was trying to get something done and he was fussy. Like make dinner or something.

I took it away before he entered DC. I didnt want the paci being used all the time.

Re: When did you get rid of the pacifier?

DD is 12 months and still has it. My goal is to get rid of it around 18 months. I figure when I'm off for winter break is a good time. In the meanwhile, I'm really trying to use it sparingly at home, and mostly for naps and bedtime. At daycare, they only let her have it for naps. I feel like my MIL gives it to her constantly though. She will happily suck on it all day if we let her.

@ about 20 months. We just quit cold turkey. Threw them all in the trash (kept one hidden high in a cabinet just in case but we didn't need it. He would cry out for it in his sleep once in a while but by day 2 it was much easier and after a week he had pretty much forgotten about it.

Idk honestly, I just stopped offering it one night because I didn't want her to get dependent on it or addicted to it, and after a few days she just forgot about it. I wanted to do it while she was young so she wouldn't remember it. It helped us get through the difficult newborn phase and that was good enough for me

Re: When did you get rid of the pacifier?

DD was about 2 years, 3 months.. Her brother was born right before she turned 2 and so she reverted back to it more after he was born. She only wanted it at nap and Bedtime, was never a paci kid during the day. Telling her she was a big girl and her brother needed them helped. :) DS never took a paci even as a newborn so luckily i didnt have to break that habit with him.

OMG! Tonight was an epic fail. Cried so hard and almost threw up a few times from it. After 15 min of a screaming demon child, I gave in Chat Icon She was so good last night. Ugh! I'll try again tomorrow. She is now sleeping peacefully with her binky. I think I'll take it out of her crib after she spits it out so she can't put it in in the morning.

Somewhere around 9 months to a year. He was doing CIO for sleeping for the billionth time and we decided to do it all at once. It worked in a day or two.

When did you get rid of the pacifier?

We will when he is 2.5 - in Sept/Oct. This summer is crazy so we are waiting. He only uses it for naps and bedtime. But he loves it!

Got rid of it at about 14 months cold turkey bc ds started chewing right through it. He was very attached to it but honestly it wasn't half as bad as I thought it would be.
