Did I overreact or not?
My daughter began tball (challenger division) 2 months ago. It's a special needs team; she is autistic. Like always, it took her a while to get comfortable with doing things. Her first game she did nothing but scream and want to go home. Now, she has ran the bases, batted and plays catch.
Today is her last day. After her game, they have a little picnic and they get trophies.
My husband paid $50 a while ago to be in a 2 day bike ride. This was before we knew about the picnic. He was out ALL day yesterday doing this bike ride. When I asked if he could skip the ride today, he made it seem like I was crazy for asking that. He said he already paid and was looking forward to it for months.
Little accomplishments that might not seem big for others like just getting on a baseball field are HUGE for us. I feel he should have just skipped the ride today; especially because he did it all day yesterday and be there to see his daughter get her trophy. Mind you, I let him do whatever he wants (go to the gym, hes on a baseball team, go bike riding on weekends). I just feel his daughter shuld have come before his bike ride. Did I overreact or do I have a right to be beyond annoyed?

Did I overreact or not?
I would be very upset. If the roles were reversed, I would not have missed that picnic for the world so I would be hurt if dh did not feel the same

Re: Did I overreact or not?
Not at all. I'd feel the SAME.EXACT>WAY. In fact, I'd be pissed if DH missed this for my non-special needs children. Given how far your DD has come and how much that probably took for her - that is huge - and I feel he should have been there - absolutely - no question about it. The strange thing is - he should WANT to be there

I guess I'm the odd man out here, but I don't think it's THAT big of a deal. At least you were there! Was he at her other games? Is this a general problem with him, or a one time thing?

I have to agree! Unless he never goes to the games, then I would be upset.

Re: Did I overreact or not?
Normally nothing bothers me - but my nephew is autistic - I completely understand how big of a deal things like this are ........
When something 'big' happens for Bobby, it's not just my cousin and her husband, we are ALL there like the crazed lunatic family we are !!
I'm with you, I'd be upset.

Did I overreact or not?
my husband is an avid cyclist - does bike tours all the time. They are usually planned for well in advance and can be pricey. It usually involves many long hours of training over the course of a few months just to prepare for them. Taking all that into consideration, if he wanted to miss the 2nd day to attend then great! If not I wouldn't be upset. So long as one of us was there with a cam corder I'd be fine with it.

Re: Did I overreact or not?
I get both sides. I would have been upset as well but he did pay for it. I would like to say that is great that she was able to be part of that team!

Did I overreact or not?
Its a quick ceremony - you can drive him to catch up with the riders after....even though its past - my $.02.
I used to be a buddy for the challenger division when I was younger (my parents were coaches). Its a great team. One of my favorite moments was when a player got his first hit off the tee - ran to third, then made his way to first. When he got there he turned to us and said, "I always dreamed of that hit". And I'm telling you this was 25+ years ago and it stuck with me! Enjoy the game....you'll remember it more than the ride.

Re: Did I overreact or not?
I wouldn't be upset. I have 3 kids, right now 2 kids are in sports. Their games are always over lapping and are at opposite sides of the town. I went to 1 of my DS's games this past season and I couldn't even watch him because the baby was running around. DH has only been to 1 of DD's games. Like another poster said, one of you were there and that is what matters.

I think the OP's situation is a little bit different since she is dealing with a child with special needs. Since this was such a milestone for her I too would be very upset.
