Just a quick question :

When your LO started almost sttn or completely sttn, did they pretty much cut out or down on their naps?

DS is getting better at night, we aren't sttn but I can't complain at all. And he takes pretty much two naps now during the day for about a half hour at a time, big change from last week when they were an hour and a half a pop!

He's not overly cranky and stays up about 4-5 hours now between naps and until bed.

I'm not upset he's not napping, I'd much rather him be sleeping at night, I'm just curious if this is something normal now is all :)

DS is 8 months btw.

He actually started napping more once he began sleeping through the night. Sleep begets sleep.

I know what they say, but my DS already doesn't follow the "rules" lol.

I was just curious if anyone else had a similar situation is all.

My dd tends to nap less when she sleeps better at night. She's always taken short half hour naps, but now she's down to just one or two a day while she used to take more like 3 or 4 before she started sleeping better at night.

My twins are 20M but the naps have changed frequently because of teething...sometimes long, sometimes short. Once they hit around 14 M they started napping longer. (2-3hrs) I do have my older twin who is starting to protest naps already... Hang in there.
WE have been STTN for awhile we did the CIO method.

this has never been true for my ddChat Icon she follows no rules and marches to the beat of her own drum. can't wait for teenage-hoodChat Icon Chat Icon

for a long time, dd would ONLY catnap. so we were doing 4 30min naps a day... when she started sttn right about 6 months old... that did change a bit, she went down to 3 naps for a while (still catnaps). then she started to fight every nap, and it got old and I felt like it was pointless having her cry nap after nap. so now I stretch her wake times and do 2 naps a day. she *usually* takes 1 nap that's 75-90 minutes and then the other nap is usually 30 minutes. occasionally she'll only take 2 30min naps. but regardless, I've been trying to just keep her on a schedule instead of worrying about her wake times etc, bc she just does better that way. the other day, she woke up for the day early and was just a crab, so I did an early nap and gave her 3 naps - for each one, there was 30 minutes of crying beforehand and she woke up cranky. not worth it to me. I rather fight through some crankiness and distract her to get her through to her normal nap time; she goes down so much nicer. I've been doing this with her for a few weeks now. I've read that at 8 months old, a baby need approximately 14 hours of sleep total, per 24 hours. dd has always gotten a little bit less, or been on the lower end of the spectrum, in getting the amount of sleep she supposedly needs for her age. but she usually does get 14 hours total, if she takes one good nap and one short one... so on the occasions where she takes 2 short naps, I really don't sweat it, bc she she still sleeps good at night. I've noticed the only times she really wakes or gets restless at night, are if she winds up going to bed for the night a little later than normal. it's never been effected by her naps.
sorry for the long winded response lolChat Icon

Thank you!

I am really not sweating it either. Today he took a two hour morning nap after sleeping 8-7 with a couple of night feelings, unlike yesterday when his naps only totaled an hour at most. Like your DD, he marches to his own drummer! As long as he's happy and healthy, it's all good to me.

Re: STTN and napping

YES - this happened to us. DD always took these epic long naps but maybe it was a newborn thing? She would sleep 3-4 hours at a pop during the day…it was crazy.

Then at 3-4 months she started sleeping 8-9 hours at night. She'd get up to nurse at 5am and then go back down for another 4 hours. All of a sudden…no more long naps. They were 30-40 min naps only. She would do this 3x a day.

At 6 months she started sleeping 11-12 hours at night. We dropped the 3rd nap and she now does 2 naps a day. They were still 30-40 min but slowly started stretching some of them out. I leave her in her crib for a bit and sometimes she rolls around for 20 min and falls back asleep!

Now at 9 months she usually does a 90 min nap and a 30-60 min nap. But it is not consistent and some days she does two 45 min nap.

She also marches to her own beat lol!
