I have no advice. My almost 3.5 yr DD is NASTY.

I asked her the other day to get me a pull up for her younger sister. She ignored me. I asked again. IGNORE. (I know she hears me cause she's giving me the side eye) so I asked again for the 3rd time and she goes "I HEAR YOU. STOP TALKING TO ME AND I'LL GET IT WHEN IM READY"

This is something my DD would totally do!! When I ask her to do something a few times (because obviously she can't do it the first 5x I ask) she finally responds, "ALRIGHT ALREADY!" What goes on?? LOL. Where do they get this from??

and this is what is so difficult - I KNOW how I'd deal w/ an adult or teenager speaking to me that way but 3/4/5 year old children are NOT adults -

They're not nasty just for the hell of it, all of the time - I get that attitude when he's cranky, or I tell him no, or for whatever reason he's made or annoyed at me - and when a kid is cranky it's just NOT the same as dealing w/ an adult who SHOULD know how to behave and compose themselves regardless of their emotional state KWIM? A little kid still has to be taught what is/is not appropriate behavior.

I think it's a phase - God, I PRAY it's a phase !! I usually immediately respond with "When you're ready to speak to me the right way, come and talk to me" - or I calmly tell him (and sometimes not so calmly tell him) to go into his room and stay there until he can speak to me like a person - he gives me the face b/c he KNOWS he's out of line - if I'm asking him to do something and I get the nasty attitude, I can't help it, I yell at him and let him know I"m his MOTHER, not his friend on the playground (totally my father's words right there) and he will not speak to me that way. Then I'm in his face until he does whatever it is, and THEN he goes to his room ........

I've also just turned off the TV, taken the iPad away, removed the toy from his hands - whatever it is .....
I never just ignore it - but sometimes you're just so taken back by what comes out of their mouth you stand there dumbfounded like a moron !!! To the point that I've actually said to him "DID you REALLY just SAY that to me????"

Right there with all of you. DD will be 4 in august. She is awful with her 'tude.

I guess I'm not alone. I keep waiting for it to get easier. Four hasn't been any easier.
My son can be so sweet one moment and then switch instantly. He has such an attitude at times. When you tell him he can't do something he tells you. " if you don't let me do it then I'm going to be so mad at you". I tell him that I'm fine with that. Ha!

This post makes me feel alot better...my DS will be 4 in august and some days i could snap

the ONLY thing that helps is taking away toys for a time period, but its only a short lived solution
