Flying with a lap infant

If you flew with a lap infant/child, how long did said infant/child actually stay in your lap? I'm having a hard time picturing my little man staying put for too long!!

I'm wondering the same thing - doing this in a few weeks with 13mo dd. She's pretty on the go most of the time. Luckily our flight is just 3 hours! We booked the back row ;)

I have flown with DD1 a bunch of times and she was always fine. When she was young I would nurse her to sleep and she would stay asleep for the whole flight, and when she got older I just let her play with my ipad and it kept her busy!

We have flown 3x.

1- DS was 4 months to Tampa
2 - DS was 10.5 Months to Orlando
3 - DS was 15 months to Tampa.

I was a nervous wreck for DS's first flight at 11m. He is very active and was already walking/running by then so I was worried he wouldn't sit still. He slept the entire time on both flights lol. Hopefully it will be the same for you! GL!

Thanks for the feedback. DS will be 18 mos when we fly. We will also be flying with DD who will be almost 4. I plan to bring LOTS of stuff to keep him entertained but this boy is always on the go! Thank goodness it's only a 3 hour flight, lol.

I think every baby is different ,but my 10 month old is VERY squirmy (won't even let me change his diaper at times) so it was kinda hard for me to keep him on my lap during a recent flight, he was constantly trying to stand on my lap to touch the people in front of him hahah... i distracted him with some apps on my phone but i was grateful that it was only an hour and a half flight.

My dd flew last month at 12m and she was pretty much passed back n forth between me, my mom, and my dh. She wanted to stand sometimes and look at the other kids around her... We occupied a lot of her time with either the iPad or with snacks. She handled it pretty well... Just have that bottle or paci prepared for takeoff and landing. My dd actually came back home from our trip with an ear infection... We don't know if it was from the plane or the Caribbean water though.

We had one of the last rows and there were a bunch of kids back there as well. I think flying with an infant would be better than with a toddler

We just flew with my 14 month old and he sat on my lap (or my father in law's lap) both ways and slept (thankfully). When we flew with DS 1 when he was 15 mos - luckily there was an empty seat next to me since it was just he and I. At 17 mos he was all over the place and ended up sitting on the lap of a man a few rows back for awhile.

DD was 4M the first flight. It was a 5 hour flight from PDX to NY and she slept the entire time on my lap round trip.

I'm taking her again in Aug and she will be 13M. I'm curious to see how she does but, Im betting it will be a totally different experience!

dh wore ds in the bjorn with.the top not buckled. ds was like 14 months. That way dh was hands free. it helped a lot.

ds got up once to walk up and down with dh and also switched to my lap and next to my other ds a little.

I've flown many times with DD between 5M-2Y. She always did fabulous on my lap. As a baby it was easier since she just slept & nursed the whole time. When she was older I had toys, books, and my ipad to distract her with and she did well. This summer we'll be flying again and it'll be the first time she'll be in her own seat. I wish she could just sit on my lap again. She weighs like 25 pounds. lol.

My DD would sit and play, it was a breeze. My DS is the total opposite. He doesn't cry, but does not sit still. I flew last week with my 4 yo DD and him. She fell asleep and he climbed all over me..non-stop..luckily it was only a 2 hr flight.

My DS was 15 months when we flew. We had 4 3 hour flights split 2 different days. I nursed him often when he started getting antsy which was a life saver. Snacks and toys also were a must, sticker books are good too. We had 2 other kids 4&5 years old)that had seats so we switched them around often to keep things new. It was tough but worth it and I would do it again. Good luck!
