any advice on attitudes?
I am at my wits end here. My dd who will be 4 next month has turned into a teenager with pms.
How do I teach her not to be so rude and disrespectful when I just want to beat her

My mom always said 4 was the worst to make you ready to send them off to school (she was a SAHM and I didn't go to preschool).
DS is 3.5 and I've noticed more attitude over the past few weeks. Not looking forward to 4.

i get to the point where i tell him if he doesn't listen something very bad is going to happen. he looks at me like...she may be serious....and then tests me and says...do it! at that point i can throw him out the window.

any advice on attitudes?
oh four is so much fun isnt it?
(snipped a long thing i wrote since I know I'm in minority on parenting ideals)
To summarize
Every action has an immediate reaction. I rarely threaten and just respond instead. She then has to make it right. No matter what, she MUST address her wrong doing and she MUST made amends. I never let her off the hook. Once she was just overtired cranky and pulled some crap. I woke her UP to resolve it. You can’t and won’t just ignore you messed up. YOU WILL respond and we will all sleep when everything is square or no one sleeps.
THANKFULLY these blow ups are getting further apart but oddly enough they get dumber and angrier with each one. Like she’s testing her limits. Each new BS she’ll learn from and not repeat but think of a new one. So she keeps me on my toes.
Its these times I think my head.. everyone always says how kind, polite and darling my daughter is.. “always happy” wish they witness these insanity times! LOL Overall, she’s a good kid. I appreciate that and yes, I give her WAAAAAAAAAAY more leeway than I should but as long as she’s not being disrespectful, causing property damage or too loud, I let it go as a kid being a kid.

Re: any advice on attitudes?
Well, my advice comes really from working with teenagers, but maybe it could work with little ones. Whenever, I got an attitude I always addressed it immediately. I would immediately say "excuse me... " and address the tone, attitude, whatever. Almost always the teen would say, "oh, sorry" and slink away. I think it is just a case of kids testing their boundaries, so it is important to set boundaries. With a small child if they want something I suppose you can make them say it again nicely or else they do not get it. Also, be careful how you speak because kids tend to pick up sass from their parents. Hope this helps.

Re: any advice on attitudes?
When you find out please let me know! My DD will be 4 in October and the attitude she dishes out sometimes is insane!! DH always says 'where does she get this from?' while looking at me ! Oh no way you're putting the blame on me for this mister!! I hope there is some kind of miraculous change in her attitude soon because this house ain't big enough for both of our attitudes!

I have no advice. My almost 3.5 yr DD is NASTY.
I asked her the other day to get me a pull up for her younger sister. She ignored me. I asked again. IGNORE. (I know she hears me cause she's giving me the side eye) so I asked again for the 3rd time and she goes "I HEAR YOU. STOP TALKING TO ME AND I'LL GET IT WHEN IM READY"
I wanted to throw her across the room. I was so angry
This is something my DD would totally do!! When I ask her to do something a few times (because obviously she can't do it the first 5x I ask) she finally responds, "ALRIGHT ALREADY!" What goes on?? LOL. Where do they get this from??

and this is what is so difficult - I KNOW how I'd deal w/ an adult or teenager speaking to me that way but 3/4/5 year old children are NOT adults -
They're not nasty just for the hell of it, all of the time - I get that attitude when he's cranky, or I tell him no, or for whatever reason he's made or annoyed at me - and when a kid is cranky it's just NOT the same as dealing w/ an adult who SHOULD know how to behave and compose themselves regardless of their emotional state KWIM? A little kid still has to be taught what is/is not appropriate behavior.
I think it's a phase - God, I PRAY it's a phase !! I usually immediately respond with "When you're ready to speak to me the right way, come and talk to me" - or I calmly tell him (and sometimes not so calmly tell him) to go into his room and stay there until he can speak to me like a person - he gives me the face b/c he KNOWS he's out of line - if I'm asking him to do something and I get the nasty attitude, I can't help it, I yell at him and let him know I"m his MOTHER, not his friend on the playground (totally my father's words right there) and he will not speak to me that way. Then I'm in his face until he does whatever it is, and THEN he goes to his room ........
I've also just turned off the TV, taken the iPad away, removed the toy from his hands - whatever it is ..... I never just ignore it - but sometimes you're just so taken back by what comes out of their mouth you stand there dumbfounded like a moron !!! To the point that I've actually said to him "DID you REALLY just SAY that to me????"
