Your child's MMR reaction?
So exactly 7 days after my dd's MMR and chicken pox shots, she has developed a red area around the injection site... Has this happened to anyone else? She's had it for 2 days now and I think it got a little bigger since yesterday. No other side effects so far though...

Re: Your child's MMR reaction?
my DD didn't broke out into hives about a week after had to give her some benadryl and small dose of predisone.. other than that she didn't have any reaction to the MMR and varicella (it was given separately). I don't think the hives were from the vaccination though.
but i did read that a rash at the injection site can happen and it is nothing to worry about.. if your DD is acting normal and is fine, i wouldn't be worried.

Re: Your child's MMR reaction?
My DS had a similar reaction to that to the chicken pox shot. He had a hard red lump at the injection site for quite a while. He also had pimple like spots all over the leg. As for the MMR, he got a hive like rash and a fever - both lasted a few days. My DD hasn't had either shot yet.

Re: Your child's MMR reaction?
Very common. My DS just had the booster at age 6 and he had a bad rash as well!

Hmm.. Maybe it's a reaction to the chic pox vac instead. I'm a bad mommy and I don't remember which leg got what hard, red lump describes it perfectly. Def isn't rash like to me. Thanks!

Re: Your child's MMR reaction?
My dd broke out in a terrible rash all over her body 8 days after she got the shot. I did the chicken pox and mmr separate. The rash lasted a few days and bothered me more than her.

Not a bad mommy! How would you remember that! I only know which was which because I didn't give the shots together - in fact, it was like a year apart - that is the only reason I can tell you which reaction was to which shot I specifically remember the lump situation because I brought him back to the ped to get it checked out.
ETA: Here is my similar post from when DS had this reaction years ago!Reaction post question

if it is any consolation.. I was too. I gave DD the varicella at her 12 months and got into an argument with her dr. about the MMR and walked out of the office. That dr. was later fired (not because of me) but I was adamant about not giving DD the MMR until she was verbal. And since we are a multi-lingual family, DD is taking her sweet time.
I even delayed her "pre school" until Sept, because I wanted to be as close to 2 before I gave her the shot. Fast foward to May, I got an alert there was a Measels outbreak in Williamsburg, which is literally 5 mins from me. I asked DH to make an appt. the same day, to give her the MMR. And DH told me that was atleast 20 parents there when he went to get the MMR. Believe me, I know how you feel, but if and when you chose to give it, don't worry.
