DS will only fall asleep on the boob...
DS is 7 weeks, EBF, and has hated the pacifier from pretty much day 1, we've tried 5 brands now. He's a great sleeper once he's asleep but I'm the only one that can put him down because he uses ME as a pacifier. He'll wake up from a nap, eat, play, and then needs to go on the boob to go back to sleep (doesn't even really eat). DH has given him a pumped bottle here and there for bedtime and I still have to go in and put him on me to get him to sleep.
Back in the day DD would take the pacifier, we'd rock her a bit, put her in the RnP and she'd pass out, DS is so much work!
HELP! Yes, I love the closeness and bonding but my nips need a break and I want to be able to leave him with someone once in awhile and need to have them have a way to get him to sleep!

i tricked dd into taking the pacifier...
i would start to bf her and then switch out the boob for the pacifier while she is still in that position - i didnt move her and continued to leave her in that position for a few mins after the switch. she would take it and go to sleep with it. after a few tries she would just take the paci and not need my boob anymore

Sorry - I'm no help...dd is over 12mo and still falls asleep nursing!! But, she does take a bottle when I'm not around and falls asleep with that too. When she's with my mom, I have my mom use a level 1 nipple on her bottle so the flow is slow and she has to suck harder and then she'll fall asleep just the same as she nurses with me.

Yes I did this as well. My boys both loved to fall asleep on the boob, but at least the pacifier trick helped out a little.

I think at that age DD was still nursing to sleep at night. Within a few more weeks I was able to break the habit. We would get her changed and in pjs, then I would nurse her, then we would put her in her sleep sack and sing a little before putting her down. It was just a few minutes but it did separate nursing from going to sleep and worked well.
For naps, what about the swing? I never fed DD before naps so it avoided the issue for us. She would eat as soon as she woke, play for a bit (an hour tops at that age) and then I put her in the swing and she'd fall asleep within a few minutes. Her other naps of the day were usually in the carseat heading home from running errands or I would swaddle her and put her in the RNP. Eventually I started putting her in the crib and would just hang out and read or fold laundry in her room until she fell asleep. She would fuss a tiny bit and I would just reassure her and she got used to it. Eventually I could just sing to her, put her down, and put on her musical seahorse and walk out. She was never into a paci and did suck her hands and eventually her thumb but that was short lived.

Hmmm but for bedtime, he falls asleep when he's feeding so I'd have to wake him up to have a short break between nursing and bedtime, I like your idea of separating it but wonder if it will create a beast to wake him up to do it?
The pre-nap nursing for sucking has to stop, I know that, but I don't know how to break the habit! He isn't a huge fan of the swing  I swaddle him, he wants to suck, passes out, then I pat his back for awhile and put him down. Might try just the patting...

So he fell asleep when DH gave him a bedtime bottle and DH successfully put him down so I do have an alternative to the boob... but that would mean someone would have to give him a bottle before every nap?? Seems like another terrible habit to start.
