If this keeps up, I'm the one who will need a pacifier
I'm hoping someone who has already gone through this can offer some suggestions.
DD sleeps with a pacifier (she's 4 months). She wakes throughout the night, whining and crying, because the darned thing falls out of her mouth. I was up 7 times last night because of that pacifier.
What can we try to do? I've googled this question and it seems most people say that they put a bunch of pacifiers in the crib so that the baby can easily find one, but this is not an option for us.
Help!

i used the wubanub pacigier for DD it has a doll on the end of it and help keep it in her mouth i started using it at 2 or 3 weeks old

Why not use this time to break her of the pacifier? It will be easier now than later. A litte CIO instead of going in all the time to replace it.

i have a similar problem with dd - she wakes up and only goes back to sleep with he pacifier but that involves us getting up and giving it to her.
we have had nights that its every 1.5 - 2 hours of doing it and there are nights that its only once - its rough when we are both working.
my advice is DONT attempt CIO! i just attempted it last night - terrible terrible terrible. i feel like a bad mom bc of it.
i started a thread asking for suggestions & advice and everyone is posting that she is too young at 4 months for CIO
maybe try the pacifier attached to the stuffed animal...im going to get one tomorrow
good luck i hope we both get some sleep soon

CIO is not for everyone. And 4 months is not too young. But again its not for everyone.

With the pacifier - I would not rush in to put it back.....see if DC can try and self soothe. They need to learn it at soem point and IMO the earlier the better ( and no I do not mean a newborn)

i totally agree about them needing to learn to self soothe - and the earlier the better...that is exactly why i tried CIO. i knew DD was waking only for her pacifier so i thought it was a good time to try cio. but i was not successful - she was so wide awake and i think even scared from the experience. she didnt seem like crying herself back to sleep or self soothing was going to happen anytime soon and after 30 minutes i just couldnt take it. i thought I was ready for it, but maybe i wasnt - who knows.

My girls couldnt find them either even at 6 mo. We went cold turkey and took them away for bed, naps, everything! It took about 3 days and was hard b/c DD had a bad allergy attack over the 3 days from pollen. I probably would have given her a paci but she couldnt breath out of her nose and would have spit it out anyways.
We had the same thing waking 5x per night x2! We CIO a bit with them. They protested but they dotn cry so much as whine and fuss. They still protest naps and bedtime but they whine a bit and roll around but are asleep most times within 10-20 mine. If they are really crying I go in but usually takes just one time.

This was happening to us and bc of that I got rid of the paci cold turkey at 3mths!!! Best decision ever and dc learned to sleep thru the night on his own!

Someone mentioned to me you can replace the paci with thumb sucking. That is something you cannot lose and the baby can do that in the middle of the night. If you want to give that a try, next time the paci falls out put her thumb in her mouth to see if she'll take it. I do have to warn you some babies develop blisters on their thumb from too much sucking.

here is the info on the progressive CIO that i attempted last night -
preogressive CIO

let us know how it goes in the morning - i hope you have more success than i did 
if you dont do the progressive CIO i think you just let them cry until they calm themselves down and put themselves back to sleep...i was only able to do that for 11 minutes. it seems to be a lot tougher - the progressive way at least reassures them that you are there and they arent alone

I just go in every 3/5/7 mins, rub their back, etc. so they know Im there. I give them a burp cloth too as a lovey. I have blankets but DD puts them over her face. A A and A blanket works too.

My LO stopped taking her pacifier for awhile now so I can't help much on that issue. But for CIO, we don't cry as in let her scream. As long as it's a protest cry we let her go. It can be tough but you learn the difference in cries. I don't just place her in the crib and walk away. For nighttime we have a bedtime routine - bath, bottle, brush (teeth) book, and bed. And when I put her down into her crib for bedtime or naptime I sooth her. I rock her to sleep until she's sleepy. Sometimes when I transfer her it wakes her up but again as long as it's a protest cry I let her CIO. Otherwise I figure out what is wrong... diaper change, pain (teething etc... hungry?) I've read you can let them cry for an hour... personally, if DD is crying / fussing for more than 15 minutes she wasn't ready or she woke herself up.
Also, I find this time of year has been tricky dressing DD appropriately. it's hot out so I'm putting less layers but at the same time we have central AC. So I'd make sure you adjust the temps and clothes at night to keep LO comfortable.
I thought I was terrible when I first started CIO. Sometimes I cried more than DD but honestly, now it's as if she knows I'm sleepy and mommy is putting me to bed to sleep.

This was such a frustrating time when DS was a baby....he would wake up every hour and scream for it 
We put at least 6 in his crib and it helped, I know you said you can't do that though.
Have you tried the paci that is attached to the stuffed animal? Some people say that worked for them.
